Ray Leonard vs. Felix Trinidad

    I think Trinidad hit hard enough to KO Leonard with one shot. I don't think it is likely because Leonard can take a good shot and he has good enough defense to stay out of range of two-three in a row.

    To answer you first point. I will make the argument as the issue is presented. You did what you say I shouldn't in you third argument. So I will leave that point there.

    To answer you second point. There is no way to know if Leonard underestimated his power or not. Arrogance probably played a part but after that second round he would have known better. He was simply able to deal with Duran's power because he has great boxing skill and a soild chin.

    In the Hearns fight, Leonard never looked hurt but I could tell he did not want more than one shot from Hearns. He was feeling them. I think that is why he lost it and started throwing the sink at Hearns. He rose to the occasion because if he had not he would have been stopped. Couple that with Hearns' weak punch resistance and you had Leonard over coming some major odds.

    Point 3. I have never seen the De La Hoya fight. From what I have heard it was a fight that De La Hoya was winning because he was boxing nicely and staying away. Hopkins did the same thing. Hopkins was moving, moving, and moving trying to keeps as much distance from him and those bombs as possible. Because Trinidad was not trying to set up punches or box his way to him, he was being lead around the ring and beaten to the punch. Had Hopkins stopped to trade shots the fight would have come alive. Is it were, he did not start trading anything until he had Tito sufficently weakened. Smarts.

    This is what Leonard would do as well, like you say and he would have the same results, probably in much more dramatic fashion....Leonard was just the type of fighter to get you in trouble and finish you. But, against Tito he ain' rushing in there and clubbing Trinidad out. That Leonard existed in maybe three fights against very lesser opponents than what Trinidad would offer.

    The Arguello fights you named don't change my point even though the differ. Arguello was getting outboxed by Olivares and beaten up he still pulled it together KO'ed him.

    About Leonard, what you said is my thoughts exactly. I am commend you willingness to close out if you are done with posting your thoughts. Thanks for the conversation.

    I don't, as Leonard has never shown himself to be susceptible to being one-punch KO-ed--even against someone whom I consider a bigger puncher in Hearns.

    I think Leonard said that that one punch shook him up for several rounds. But who knows? Leonard says a lot of things that are half-credible.

    I think Leonard went into the destroyer mode more because 1) he realized that Hearns actually wasn't hurting him badly with his best shots; and 2) he realized that (around round 6? I forget) Hearns had "that weak chin."

    Again, this is a superfluous argument. I've never said anything remotely to the effect that Leonard bull-rushes Trinidad a la Hager v. Hearns, walks through everything, and bombs Trinidad out in a few rounds.

    I am cool with everything you are saying and find it interesting actually, especially the first point and the Hearns-Leonard point.

    The last post wasn't for you exactly, even though it was in my post directed to you. I had to field a post were a guy said that Leonard would KO Trinidad in 5. Just in case you felt that way too, I added to this thought. Glad to hear that you don't.

    I have consistanly put forward that Leonard would more than likely KO Trinidad. I am surprized that I have to argue that Trinidad is a worthy opponent. Leonard was human and even though he was a perect fighter he Trinidad would be a handful for him. It think that Leonard could make it easy on himself but he likes to live dangerous in the ring which gives Trinidad a shot.

    Oscar boxed rings around Felix.

    And no Felix isn't Ranzany.Wasnt trying to say that-comparing fights with contenders/title bouts-where as Ray crushed his Felix usually had to get off the canvas to win.

    Leonard got past Hearns who hit harder then Felix AND was a better boxer.

    Leonard would beat the hell out of Trinidad and then stop him.Different class of boxers.

    no chance? what a biased comment.. hearns was winning against leonard, he had clearly a bad style for leonard, and the rematch was a clear victory for the spagetti hitman

    and Hearns hits harder, was much much faster and is a far far more skilled fighter than Trinidad...Leonard still beat him when both were close to their peak.

    Tito gets crushed by Leonard, period.

    Fixed.

    There is a fine line between boxing and running an DelaHoya crossed over that line even during his so called dominant rounds. I had Oscar ahead as most people did but not by the margin many claim. He did very little fighting even in some of those earlier rounds and no judge worth their salt shouldve given him some of those rounds.

    Ofcourse he totally gave it up and disgraced himself in those last 4 rounds or 1/3rd of the fight LOL.

    Anyway Ray Leonard was leagues over Oscar so it doesnt really matter.

    Tito couldn't hit Ray with rice at a wedding.

    No contest at all. Leonard too fast, too skilled, too tough, not to mention having better than average power and a great chin. Tito wouldn't have a clue as what to do against leonard much like he didn't against hopkins.

    Leonard would dominate with the jab and sizzling combos which would both confuse and hurt trinidad. Trinidad would get in some shots but not land consistently. He would be too slow to keep up with leonard and would gradually be taken apart. Leonard by tko inside of 10.

    go watch the de la hoya fight you will see way leonard would have stopped tito plus Tito does have the power to take Ray out in one shot dude took punches from hagler and hearns
