Dariusz Michalczewski vs Roy Jones. What are DM's chances?

My guess is actually 50/50


He had great workrate and whiskers, all he had to do is outpoint Roy.

I think Roy would get frustrated and may walk into something big as well, I don't see Roy being able to take Dm out.

 

i see roy winning a comfortable decision. dariusz, at his best, was a very good fighter. he would have been the bigger fighter in this matchup but jones was too good at this point.

 

Jones had amazing speed, skill, and pretty good power. DM had solid skills, toughness, a good work rate, solid power and a solid chin.

Jones was never in a great fight for the following reasons:

1 ) He had too much advantage in skills.

2 ) He was a pound for pound businessman, picking the best time to fight and avoid people.

3 ) And partly because his chin betrayed him..

DM would make this a fight. I think his chances for upset are about 40/60, which is why Jones never wanted this fight.

 

Are there any good fights that I should look into to get an idea of Dariusz' skills?

the virgil hill win was probably his best. good performance but he's not beating jones.

 

I would've liked to see this match in Seoul. That's a neutral country.

DM had an amazing jab. Everyone said is was stupidly hard and unsettling.

Unfortunately, that's about all he has over Jones, Jr. If he had been a little younger and caught an older Jones, Jr on the decline he would have had a good chance of pulling out a victory. Unfortunately, he was the same age as Jones, Jr.

The big edge Dariusz has is he's the rare breed that gets stronger as the fight wears on. And he was such a physical force in there. He'd pressure Jones more and more as time goes on and Roy loves his pitchers mound and guys that fall for his feints on the outside and don't press.

Interestingly, a guy that did not play the feint with Roy on the outside and let him dictate was Glen Johnson. He pressed from the beginning and turned it into his fight. And Roy just isn't as effective or comfortable playing that role. I have zero doubts the second half of the fight, Dariusz takes him there. And he was extremely extremely accurate and is going to land. Then it can turn into a who absorbs better fight.

In a 3 fight series, neither is going 3-0. The other guy will not cooperate and will get the W one way or another. And we the boxing fans suffered because this never was even a 1 fight series.

There are times when you tear your hair out because fighters wouldn’t take a risk for their legacy.

This is one of those cases.

 

This was always more competitive on paper than Mayweather vs. Pacquiao (for which it was the spiritual predecessor in the litany of drawn-out "will they or won't they" mega-fight sagas), by my reckoning.
