Brian Magee has been banned from boxing for six months after testing positive for the banned substance oxilofrine.

The 38-year-old's positive test - on the same drug sprinter Asafa Powell admitted was found to be in his system - came immediately after losing his interim WBA super-middleweight title to Mikkel Kessler in December.

However, according the Telegraph's website Magee has avoided a longer suspension after demonstrating the substance had been an unlabelled ingredient in a sports supplement he had used.

Seems unintentional but you can never be sure

I'd assume he doesn't want to be used as a stepping stone for Groves/DeGale and that he views himself as a level above the likes of O'Kane and Fitz so retiring really is his only option :think

Christ so thats 30kg he'd have to lose to make cruiser! What you think feno? Would you say he'll just go HW in the pros or will he cut down?

Whenever I saw him in pics/videos I always thought he was just very fat, but I stood near him last year and saw that he looks VERY strong. Big chest & arms. Of course he is carrying a lot of excess weight, but just saying that when you see him in person there's a lot more muscle and a lot less flab than I had originally thought!

John Hutchinson is fighting for the Greater Boston LMW title this weekend. He's done of 200 tickets without even trying.

He'll be back and over for fights now but will be based in Birmingham in the UK.
