I'm not too sure what you are getting at. My point is that in the Am's these guys reguly fight the top guys in the world. Granted when they turn pro they need a few lesser opponents to get used to the rounds and no head gear etc. But after 5 or 6 fights there is no justification for them to be fighting Boris the bulgarian brick layer. They need to be stepped up much better.
bit worried about how Hearn is is promoting Joshua as the main event at the o2 aswell (I know its only set for 10,000 initially with the upper tier shut but thats still a bigger arena than Froch v Bute for example). Same with Campbell really a big outdoor event where a 6 x 3's debutant is main event. Surely that much exposure so early = pressure and makes 'doing an Audley' more likely. Bit short sighted by Hearn in my view, mind you read the deal with Joshua is a 3 fight deal so maybe he wants to milk it as much as poss incase Joshua goes elsewhere after that.
It's okay as a one off welcome to the pros and to make his debut seem special, but he should be on undercards therafter and I think he will.3 year deal I think
Moving on a tangent for a second, is anyone getting a bit bored of having to hear about 'plans' for boxers and '8 fights' in the next year talk etc. I appreciate that this is a necessity and young lads turning pro need the fights and rounds before they get into any meaningful scraps. However, I think it should be more a case of let them get on with it and make sound about these guys when they start fighting for English titles and then the fans can pick up interest. It's going a to be the best part of two years before Joshua and Campbell are involved in competitive bouts and there are plenty of other matches that could/should be made in the mean time. I know that Hearn is in the game to make money but would anyone seriously part with their money to pack out the O2 to watch Joshua fight a chap that literally they would not use for sparring?! Stinks to me a bit
hopefully it will just be his debut at the 02, still think he should be fighting on an undercard like Campbell was for his debut.
yeah fair point oh yeah 3 years makes a lot more sense i thought 3 fight deal was weird must have misread that!
Agree. Firstly, these lads will be putting enough pressure on themselves in this 'new' sport they're moving into without this instant hype. We all know how these careers are going to start off and personally I have no interest in seeing them that much until they have progressed a bit. In that sense, I wouldn't mind seeing them now and again on an undercard but to be topping bills like this is cringeworthy. But that's the money game at Sky right now - is easier to stick the instant name at the top of the bill instead of building more deserving fighters. #Sky #Matchroom #GetYourPassportReady
Might got to this. Sykes vs Mitchell Selby vs Walsh Connor vs Owen Camacho vs Conquest Glen Foot vs Larry Ekundayo If i can't get the 40's i will leave it but if i can i'd go.
I agree although as said above lets just hope its a one off. To be honest I see this being a bit like the Hull show where the market the debut olympian as the main fight (and put it on last) for the benefit of the casual fans but there will be atleast one proper main fights for the boxing fans (Crolla v Rees in that case)
I would put Joshua in with Moses Motovu as a safe debut opponent who will not fall over in around, but would be no risk to him. I would then put him with some bum who looks the part, but goes down in a round. Then just before Xmas another 6 rounder against Tomas Mrazek who always goes the distance
