I agree. I don't see why everyone thinks this is such a **** fight. Of course, it won't help GGG shake any critics of his resume, but it's actually a decent 'stay busy' fight.
Stevens would beat GG's ass. Stevens could land a much harder liver shot than Hendrix if given the chance.
Given the circumstances of the top guys not wanting GGG (or being unavailable) and GGG wanting to fight 5 times this year, Stevens is a fine choice. He's not a top 10 guy, but fighting a couple top 25 caliber fighters to stay sharp until 2014 is a smart choice. I like that strategy a lot better than the alternative. Kid Chocolate fighting once a year's not doing anything for his name value.
Anyone? There will be some decent amount of people who would call it a **** fight AFTER the actual fight.
LOL. I'm sure he could, however the important part of that sentence is the second bit. What gives you the impression GGGs gonna be giving Showtime the openings? You honestly believe Stevens wins?:rofl
Stevens has a shot...a damn good one.. Stevens would kill those 154lb guys GGG's been picking on....and he'd steamroll Macklin. GGG is 31 y/o and his biggest win is Macklin...if anything GGG has been CAREFULLY brought along.....slowly...for a REASON...:deal
what's Curtis Stevens biggest win ? didn't he lost vs Jesse Brinkley He wouldn't beat Macklin or Proska btw beside Martinez who has a better resume as Golovkin @ 160 ?
He took a Jeff Lacey/Joe Calzaghe type beating at the hands of Brinkley. And at best should've only had a draw against Derrick Findley in his last fight. Both times, he went into those fights without much of a game plan other than to score the KO right away. I still like what he brings to a possible Golovkin fight. Should push Golovkin harder than we've seen so far. I expect to him to be able to standup to GGG's power early on, and he will land some hard shots. I'd expect him to be a pile of bones by the 8th round though.
Stevens has a punchers chance! Stevens has improved in recent yrs. He is at a more comfortable weight as well. GGG resume is paper thin!
GGG will not be fighting Stevens. It's be somebody that can't punch Sergio Mora or somebody like that.
