Agreed His awareness in the ring is too poor. He looks like a washed-up ex running back trying his hand at boxing. He's going to get himself hurt or killed..it would have happened last night if the ref let him continue.. Berto is a train wreck..
He's taken a lot of punishment recently. It's obvious he's never going to get to the top of the mountain and he's made some good money. It's time he calls it a career. It's sad seeing this guy all ****ed up after these fights and slurring his words.
Its definitely time. He's starting to swell very easily, Berto is on his way to being the next Jeff Lacy.
Why retire? Why not just fight cans and get paid well for it. I would be happy to see Berto on the undercard of some big fights. He most probably wont be able to do another job as well as he can box.
Wasn't Berto fighting with one arm last night? And he was ahead or tied on 2 out of 3 judges' score cards going into round 12? I didn't have him ahead, but he was the betting favorite before the fight, and he came close to winning with only one arm. Maybe he loses to the very top guys, but he's always dangerous. And he's making a pretty good living. That doesn't look like a washed up fighter to me.
The Berto situation is what is wrong with Boxing. Berto has been in with too many good fighters in a row. And yes, they may not be Mayweather level fighters, but Ortiz, Guerrero and Karass are no bums. If someone cared about Berto, meaning he had the right management team, he would be fighting at least a couple C level fighters to build his confidence and to get some experience with his new training team. I don't know why anyone would put him in there with guys who have a good chance of beating him so many times in a row without a confidence fight. What ever happened to the tune up fight? Oh, yeah, it does not generate pay per view interest. Plus, Berto needs to be fighting more often. He has had too many long layoffs. He is a good, fan exciting fighter who can punch but he takes too many shots due to a lack of defense. Berto deserves some credit last night to fight on with a separated shoulder (remember Vitali quit against Byrd when his shoulder was bad?). And Berto also seemed to be in better shape, so he addressed his issue of stamina.
Missed the interview what did he say? Why say he should retire lol he could fight Aydin, Malignaggi or Senchenko when he loses to Brook, even Lopez Do you think boxers care about their health they'd rather the money
Well that obviously won't matter if he gets himself killed in the ring, or due to complications from beating he will almost certainly continue to take.
Unless Betro has a huge fan following, which he doesn't, he isn't going to make much fighting cans. One fight with a can is Ok but to make a career out of it? Good luck finding the people who will pay for it.
"If someone cared"???:think. .... let's see, he was getting millions to fight bums and was given a belt.... all this gave him the impression he was elite, then he fought reasonable opposition and got exposed for a c level fighter w a decent punch, he is so delusional he won't even stop using the shoulder roll. He was never as good as he got made out to be END OF STORY.
Come on you fight C level guys early on in your career and when you start fighting elite level you dont go back to fighting C level when you lose. Soto Karass was a step down from Guerrero. Now after losing to Karass maybe its time to fight C level.
