Andre Berto's situation

    Did Andre Berto make the right decision on switching trainers and picking Virgil Hunter. Personally, I think Virgil Hunter is a great trainer, especially when it comes to training a fighter mentally. He really does a great job in getting a fighter to believe in himself ( a quality that is needed in life overall to become successful, not just in boxing).

    However, although, Virgil hunter would have prepared Andre Berto very well mentally to get back in the fight, I do not think the style in which he taught Berto in training helped much . I think an appropriate fit for Andre Berto would have been Freddie roach, along with the help of Alex Ariza.

    Freddie Roach is primarily an offensive trainer, and I think that would have fit very well for Andre Berto. People say Berto needs to improve his defense skills, which is something I do not disagree with, but given the conditions, his age, and the level of competition in which he is expected to face , I think Freddie Roach would have been a better match for Berto.

    On the other hand, I think Alex Ariza would have made Berto more functional and agile . Berto is top heavy and stiff, with Ariza's workout regime, which primarily consists of explosive workouts, poly-metrics, and no weights, we could have seen a more athletic version of Berto. Although, I do know, major changes do not occur in one fight camp, I still believe, we would have seen a slightly better version of Berto on fight night.

    Thoughts?

    Berto, when against the ropes, squares up and stands stright. It´s a fatal flaw and one of the biggest he has.
    ****, he should move down in weight. He is not cut out to be a WW.

    If he really wants to do the whole shoulder roll defence then why not Mayweather Sr

    Berto should get his own undercard next...and join with HW prospect Scott.

    I was thinking the same thing ...

    However, the shoulder roll is something that takes years to develop, let alone master (Mayweather, Toney, Broner). Berto has a very good counter right uppercut, but he gets hit way too much and doesn't seem to be a disciplined fighter.

    I think Virgil is a good fit for him mentally though. I also think Nazim would have been a good look as well.

    berto should forget about the whole shoulder roll or just mix it in every now and then. wut he needs to do it go back too how he used to fight. i dont think its the trainers virgil hunter or his previous trainer that is telling him too use the shoulder roll. its berto decision hes telling them thats how he wants to fight. i dnt think virgil would try and install that in him after seeing how unsuccesful it was vs guerrero.

    Berto's offence is fine its his severe lack of defence that is his major flaw. Why would he go to Freddie Roach if he has a poor defence?

    Virgil Hunter or Mayweathers dad are the trainers he needs. If he was injured in the 4th with a torn muscle then fair play to him for fighting on.He has plenty of time to come back, no need to write him off yet its not like he suffered a devistating KO, and his other 2 losses were by UD. One of which was FOTY candidate with Victor Ortiz that could have gone either way.

    He is a Brawler, who thinks he is slick.

    three good wins at ESPN2 Friday Fight Night and then a title shot against a guy like Malignaggi. But he should avoid other brawlers.

    No it couldn't have .. It was a great fight no doubt ... but it could have only went one way to one fighter that night ... This coming from a Berto fan (though I am loosing my confidence in him at an alarming rate)

    If Virgil wasn't in his corner he would have quit in round 4 and DEFINTLY wouldn't have won them mid/later rounds.

    Virgil was telling him exactly where he needs to be to be effective
