What a great card!!! I had Berto vs Soto-Karass even going into the 12th, 6-5 rounds Soto-Karass (giving Berto rounds 2, 3, 7, 8, 11), and 104-104 points with the KD Berto scored in the 11th, which was nowhere near a low blow as Soto-Karass claimed. To me, the only possible swing round was Round 8, which I gave to Berto for landing some good hard shots vs Soto-Karass landing a bunch of arm punches. I thought Soto-Karass's best chance was to stay outside and jab with his 9-cm reach advantage, but he only did that very early, and after that showed surprising success fighting in close, taking some shots, but also forcing Berto into airballing a lot of power shots wide. Thought he also might have exploited the success he had going southpaw for 10 seconds in the 4th round and completely befuddling Berto, but he only tried it once more (in the 7th or 8th) to no effect at all. The knockdown Soto-Karass scored in the 12th was ferocious, but Berto was up quickly, think the referee did a very poor job not giving him an 8-count before deciding to stop the fight. Berto is all hard-body, no fightgame brains, he was stylistically outmatched tonight.

EDIT: To me, this win puts Soto-Karass right into the mix for a possible Mayweather fight. Guerrero parlayed wins over Aydin and Berto into a Mayweather fight, and now Soto-Karass has beaten the same two men, both more decisively than Guerrero did. At the very least, Soto-Karass should get an eliminator shot or a shot at one of alphabets next time out, he deserves it.

POSTSCRIPT: Soto-Karass's wife is really very beautiful, Soto-Karass legend in all ways tonight!!!

    my thoughts

thurman-chaves was a damned good opening slugfest...the punches they were throwing and landing on each other in the first half of the fight had me like wow...they settled in the middle rounds and boxed where thurman i felt showed some technical ability lapses but the body shot KD was a perfect setup for the eventual KO..good stuff

arakawa-figueroa is simply one of the damndest fights ive ever seen in my life....i couldn't believe the **** i was watching..so amazingly violent.....arakawa took far too much punishment...figueroa dished out too much punishment to the point where ****ed up both his hands..this should have been stopped by 10..somebody should have pulled arakawa...i seriously hope he recovers but i dont see him being 100% again boxing wise..this is going in my collection as soon as i find a link

berto-soto karass - andre berto is such a flawed fighter and its taking its toll but he showed heart fighting basically one armed even scored a KD..but the soto karass wasn't punishing him enough..just tore him apart after that KD then ended matters with a counter left hook...hopefully this gives soto karass a title shot or something...berto needs to seriously consider retirement

:deal When a fighter can't even follow a referee's question or direct himself at a ref to let the official know he's ok, there's no need for an 8-count. This wasn't a flash knockdown either Berto could barely stand up straight how in the hell was he going to fight when he could barely stand straight? C'mon now.

Wow, I cant believe people are saying that Berto should have been allowed to continue lol. I thought it was about damn time the referee stopped it, yes Berto was still swinging and occasionally landing but when the other fighter is consistenly landing that many power shots (Those ****ing overhands and uppercuts :admin) then you have to protect the fighter and stop it. Personally I thought Berto had no chance of winning, I thought Soto Karass was putting a beating on him and was surprised it seemed like it was gonna go to the 12th. And it did, which I give Berto's heart and chin mad props. But to see those scorecards was ****ing disgusting. I don't even post that often lately but damn, this was ****ing embarrassing. I know we shouled all probably be used to it by now, and there have been worse robberies, but I am so glad Soto Karass put Berto on his ass because if it had gone to the scorecards, this would have been ANOTHER controversy to add to the growing list of questionable decisions. Reminds me of Salido/Lopez 2, when the judges had Lopez ahead, but thankfully they were both able to leave it out of the judges hands.

Thank goodness I couldn't find the VCash betting thread for this. I had Berto stopping him by the 10th round.

this was bad but not nearly as bad as stanley christodoulou having canelito up 9-0 after eight rounds(a complete shutout) against trout.

that was statistically just not possible as trout had outlanded alvarez by twice as many shots in four of those rounds and pretty much outhrew canelito by a 2-1 margin in five of the rounds.

stanley gave canelito all eight rounds plus the 10-8 in the seventh so he was up 9-0.

i dont think anyone had canelo up 9-0 after eight.
