I am not sure, but had he not fought Reggie Johnson people would be pointing fingers for sure, as I have heard Reggie got the better of Roy in sparring a while back, they would be accusing Roy of ducking him.

Yeah right, dream on. What actually happened was Carlos Badilla wouldn't let Leonard cling like a limpet when his plan of trying to out macho Duran back fired miserably.

That was no off night, he couldn't answer the tenacity with which the Panamanian fought.

    Excuse?

What happened when Chad Dawson fought Andre Ward at 168? He was 30, with 34 fights on his resume, and he didn't have to drop the same amount of weight as what Roy had to.

Roy was nearly 35, with almost 50 fights on his resume.

Roy's fight night weight was normally around 186, after he'd rehydrated after the weigh in.

For an average camp, Roy would come in a little overweight with a little bit of excess body fat to lose, and then get down to around 186, before dehydrating to 175.

But the difference coming back from Ruiz, was that there was hardly any body fat to lose.

According to Thomas Hauser, Roy was 196 minus the clothes.

    http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CC8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.secondsout.com%2Fcolumns%2Fthomas-hauser%2Fjones-ruiz-and-the-roy-jones-legacy1&ei=UJ72UdDfKIm5hAeirYDoAQ&usg=AFQjCNFcRg1vbaTr_qyRPR73SZfNgyKAQg&sig2=mDMuzgatNXNOKG8IAIiHHA

So he was a solid 196, coming down to 175 for the weigh in. That's 21 pounds he dropped, and around ten pounds of that was actual muscle, that was burnt away by doing nothing more than run.

Go and look at the difference in his physique's for Ruiz and Tarver. There's a big difference.

All you're doing is, looking at his rehydration weight of 186 and then looking at the 193, and then implying that he only put on and then lost 7 pounds. You're wrong.

Roy was simply never the same post Ruiz, and he was running on fumes for the last 3 rounds against Tarver.

No one at 168 in history would beat him. He was simply too fast for anyone I've seen at the weight. He was a fucking freak.

    None without doubt.

I would without question pick the big 3 Hagler, Monzon, and Robinson over him at MW certainly. But "without doubt" wouldn't apply.

I've answered on the othe thread but I'll do it again here. Jones only put on around half a stone of muscle, on an already muscular body ( funnily enough steroids are good for that  ) and that is all he had to lose. We are talking about someone who had 6 months to bulk up, and 8 months to lose it. We are not talking someone who had been bulked up for years, and suddenly had to lose it.

As for him gassing out in the Tarver fight, that was because he was made to work harder than before due to his reflexes deserting him to such a huge extent.

That is the reality of Jones deterioration, just the same as many other fighters that relied totally on speed and reflexes. Nothing whatsoever to do with him putting on 7 or 8 pounds of muscle, and taking it off again.

i been saying this for years and still his fans can't handle the fact that tarver just had roys number.roy never wanted that fight.people like to forget roy had some type of inapropriate relationship with one of the big boys at hbo.they loved him so much that he was aloud to fight garbage men, police officers etc.etc. for years

    he really wasn't superman fellas

You only have to look at his legs in the Ruiz, and Tarver fights. They weren't noticably bigger, and any muscle he did put on for Ruiz was mainly in the upper body area.

Those legs that were so good at allowing him to leap either in or out, suddenly stopped doing that. Its called father time, and no one can beat that. It happened to Ali, Leonard, Norris, and plenty of others.

Its just that fighters who have the fundamentals right can get by on those.

Roy do realize Roy won the fight right?

Do you have the names of the boxers that go with those professions? I would like to be clued in.

Obviously not, It sure seemed like a fitting name though when watching him in there with a true HW World Champion, taking him to school.

No one expected Roy to fight Tarver after he had gone up to HW.. Tarver had pissed Roy off by crashing the Jones-Ruiz post fight conference.. That is when Roy declared he would fight him.

It had nothing to do with critics. Roy never cared about them.
