It's hard to seriously downgrade a prospect based on one bad performance. However, since Jones is a recent performance, and the best test on his resume, it is even harder to overlook it. Thurman is on a better roll right now. It is natural to pick him.
This might be a good fight to determine which prospect is better sorta reminds me of the Cotto-Quintana matchup
In fairness Brook showed heart and a decent chin for 5 rounds when gassed. If he has fixed his stamina issues (i.e. trains properly) I see this being a competitive matchup. I think it would be pretty even on the scorecards going into the championship rounds with Thurmans more telling blows eventually start to take their toll and Thurman winning a close ud or late TKO
He did hang on and survive, creditably - and did his job in the rematch, creditably - but there is a difference between a Carson Jones' pressure and that of Keith Thurman. I don't consider him more durable than Chaves (yes, Chaves had been down earlier in his career - but to a far more respectable opponent in Omar Weis than Karl David, who dropped Brook...) and should he elect to not engage Thurman as Chaves did, that leaves the option of playing keep-away which he probably doesn't have the reserves for a full 12 rounds of with Thurman hell-bent on destruction and much faster-moving (with better footwork) and more explosive than Jones. I think Brook would be hard-pressed to make it to even the championship rounds and if he does it will only make the end more brutal as it will see him taking something big he lacks the energy to defend against.
Thurman is the total package, and he adapts to every fight unlike kell brook. Thurman would destroy kell brook within 5 rounds.
Yeah you could be right, I'm very high on Thurman but Brook would be his most skilled opponent. They both would be each other's best opponents to date really. Brook is still somewhat of an unknown quantity at world level (which shows the ridiculous match-making he has been part of). I think Thurman will be a force in the division and is improving and in a year or two he will probably have far surpassed Brook, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went to the championship rounds if they fought in the near future. Equally I wouldn't be surprised if Thurman did stop him earlier, it depends on how good Brook and Thurman actually are which is still somewhat difficult to gauge.
