How was Corrie Sanders able to tag Wlad at will?

Yes I can't see anyone around at the moment who could beat him none of the current contenders or any of the prospects coming up.

The few fighters like Haye that have the speed don't have the size to outbox him at a distance and when they do get in close they lack the strength to break the clinch to be able to work in close.

The few guys with size to reach him don't have the speed to do so. And the guys like Chisora who do have the strength to be able to break the clinch and work on the inside don't have the speed to be able to get inside in the first place.

The one guy, Wilder who has the right combination of size and speed is so raw he looks like a novice and makes Sam Peter look like a poised technical fighter and very likely has a chin worse than Wlads.

Wlad is a special fighter he isn't losing anytime soon, if ever again.

Sanders flat out caught him cold, and deserves all the credit for not letting Wlad get into rhythm.

As for Wlad's part, he may've underestimated Sanders heading in to the fight and not given him enough respect by choosing to stand and trade, but it's up to each and every fighter to prepare for the most dangerous version of their opponent. I'm as big a fan of Wlad as you'll find on these boards, and you'll hear no excuses from me about the Sanders fight. Wlad got beat, but surely learned a valuable lesson from it. And that's all you can ask of a fighter.

It was as simple as, Sanders being 6'5'' and shooting a very straight, fast, left cross.

I don't think Wlad gets caught with the same punches today, but even the best Wlad would have problems against Sanders.

    Agreed.

There aren't many styles Wlad's vulnerable against, but Sanders' aggressive style and physical ability/measurables would always make for a tough, dangerous fight. I'd favor current Wlad over Sanders, but fans wouldn't like how he'd have to fight the first half of the fight to do it.

Sanders is a guy who would never beat everybody, but on any given night, could win against most anybody. Had he really dedicated himself to the sport the way Wlad has, the sky would've been the limit for him.

Sanders had incredible hand speed and power, I wish he maximized his potential and talent.
Instead he came into both Klitschko fights unfit and out of shape - but still caught both brothers with massive, fast punches.

When Corrie Sanders fought Vlad he was in the best shape of his entire career. Corrie was preparing to fight Valouev in South Africa, (had been training for months) His weight was down to a career low, only 225 and that is low for such a tall person as Corrie, then the idiot Klaus Peter Kohl had the stupid idea of having Vlad fight Corrie. Vlad did not spar, he lifted weights, he had just stopped McCline when McCline was on top. Both Vitali and Vlad wanted to fight the best, this was a huge let down for Vlad. I knew how good Corrie was, he would have easily won the gold medal in the Olympics if he had been allowed to have fought, but politics kept him out of the Olympics. Corrie is the best southpaw heavyweight ever, huge talent, which went to waste. If you watch that fight you will see that Vlad was cold, did not bother to warm up, got caught cold, but kept getting up, did not get knocked out, but was TKO'd, unlike Lennox Lewis who was knocked out by Rahman, TKO'd by McCall. Vlad had never even seen Corrie fight! I did some work for Klitschkos years ago, I warned them as best I could about Corrie, I also warned Klaus Peter Kohl. I posted all this as well on Boxing.de, and I posted the warning right here on this forum. I am sure there are a few older posters who would remember. I have pictures of Boente holding my letter at Ukrainian church. I was never paid for any work, just checked translations, wrote a few articles, did moderate Klitschko.com, not the new one, but the older one. We even had a Klitschko meeting on the new chat room at ESB years ago. Many of us used to meet at the original Klitschko Fan site, there was so much hatred of the Klitschkos that many tried to break up any meeting we had. I knew that Vlad would become a world champion since I watched him win the gold medal in Atlanta, GA back in 1996. I also knew that Vitali would become world champion as well. Vitali was a five to one underdog when he fought Herbie Hide in London, but Vitali knocked Hide out in the second round, damn, I thought Hide was dead! The person I kept in touch with was at all the fights live. I have boxing gloves, one signed by Vitali and one signed by Vlad, also pictures. When Vlad lost, I never quit being a Klitschko fan, neither did so many other Klitschko fans. The only answer I got about Sanders was, "We are not worried about Sanders". I did the best I could. The Klitschkos had big plans for America, but things did not work out, esp. in Vegas when Vlad appeared to have been drugged. The US boxing media tried to cover all this up, tried to make Vlad out as a sore loser. Vlad just wanted to know what happened to him that night. He was not feeling right early in the fight. He was not sick/weak because of punch, nor because of a lack of stamina. Watch Vlad Vs. Mercer and you will see. I have not had any communication with Vitali or Vlad, directly or indirectly for years now. All I wanted was to see them become world champions, and that happened. In the Purrity fight Vlad ran out of gas, I think he only weighed about 236lbs., I think his corner threw in the towel in the 11th round, but Vlad was not down. In Vlad's next fight he was the first to stop Axel Schultz, I think it was in the 8th round. George Foreman could not do that, in fact, Schultz beat the crap out of Foreman, won a split decision, was so bad that the IBF ordered Foreman to fight a rematch, Foreman gave up the title rather than fight Schultz again. Vlad's losses were not from his chin, the first was lack of experience, ran out of gas in 11th round, the other from not knowing his opponent. I do not consider the Brewster fight a loss. I can post the Judd letter again, but it will do no good for the haters. It appears you won't see either Klitschko fight in Vegas again................as Vitali and Steward said, there was an outside influence. Too much to write, but I think the Judd letter explains it best. After all the crap from US Boxing Media, the missing blood samples/urine, missing ID, you name it. The Judd letter has most all the info. Judd was an attorney, so I suggest anyone who is interested, they should read it. I think this letter was sent to the Attorney Gen. and Sen. McCain. Vlad just moved on, it's a shame, but........................by the way, Vlad never made any excuses about his loss to Purrity or Sanders. Again, refer to the Judd letter. (Vlad having a bad chin is a myth) I can say that Vitali and Vlad are two really good people. They have done a lot for poor children. I esp. remember them going to Brazil, but they do not advertise all their charity. Whatever, I respect them very much, not just for their boxing talent, but for their hearts.

The premise of the OP is incorrect.

Sorry bro, but rewatch the Pianeta fight. Wlad eats plenty of leather in that fight but it rarely came in combination.

When Pianeta did throw 3 or more shots, only one or two of them would land.

As for H2H, Sanders and Pianeta.....completely different fighters. Sanders fought off the back foot til he caught his guy with a counter and then bumrushed them until he was done or they were.
Vitali rightly backed off, throwing mostly 1-2s and rarely trying to drive them should he miss and eat another of Sanders' monstrous short L hands.

As for Wlad, he went right after Sanders and got caught early and often. It was over before it started really, and it shook Wladimir's confidence to the bone. He's been gunshy about trying for KO1s and KO2s ever since.

Both Lewis and Tyson were a position to grant Corrie a title shot in the 90s.

They opted to skip him in the ABC rankings, several of which had him in there top 5 on multiple occasions.

But, guys like Holyfield and Moorer fought Vaughn Bean, cancrusher extraordinaire. Lewis fought Mavrovic whose biggest wins were over James Pritchard and Saleta.

I highly doubt any of the ABC titlists would have been ridiculed had they fought him. MOF........one finally did, and he got KTFO. :yep

Lewis admitted that he avoid Corrie Sanders. Lewis knew. According to Steward, Vlad did not watch his opponents fight, but after going with Steward that changed as it should have. Always knows your opponents. Vlad is top notch now, a complete fighter...........
