Cleverly underdog against Kovalev in Wales on a FW show?

He claims Kovalev has a great chin and great stamina,neither of these two have been tested or proven.On what evidence can someone make such a statement?

Just a small example of the Kovalev hype train.

 

Cleverly is getting knocked out.

 

What we can say is that Kovalev packs a dig but those saying Cleverly is unexposed seem not to be applying the same criteria to Kovalev. Cleverly has shown no whisker weakness thus far too, whilst this is only Kovalev's 3rd 12 rounder and he's only ever been as far as 8 rounds.

Am looking forward to this fight as we will find out exactly how hard Kovalev hits, but I don't see how people can say with such conviction that he's just gonna walk through Cleverly.

 

Can't see Clev getting out the way of Kov shots for twelve. Clev is probably getting sorted out around the mid rounds. The bookes have it right. Kov should get the knockout.

Wonder how many people on here who are currently saying Clev is getting knocked out.. will be still be saying "he hasn't fought anyone", "paper champion", "feasted on bums" etc if he beats Kovalev.

I imagine quite a lot.

 

I will give him his due's if he beats Kovalev.

Clearly I still won't regard him as a legitimate world champion but I will certainly give him respect for beating a top opponent.

If Cleverly wins this he deserves an incredible amount of respect. He will no longer have the record of the worst résumé for a world champion in boxing.

 

Funny that, because I've met him and he actually comes across as a genuine bloke.. couldn't have made more time for me.

Also was at his last fight against Krasniqi, first time I've seen him fight live and was impressed with what I saw.

 

The cross between Drago and Mayweather will suddenly become an unexposed Eastern Bloc stiff don't worry about that!

 

OK Clev is a bit chavvy and bristles with confidence but he's not a bad lad, he does at least have a proper fight and get stuck in. He's proved to have an excellent chin so far and that will never be in question again should he take the power output of Kov.

Also after a lot of very mediocre opposition recently he's now made a fight with just about the scariest mutha at that weight. Ballsy choice I reckon, prob forced VVarrens hand and respect to him again at last.

Nothing against Kovalev but I'll be rootin' for the Welshman.

 

Cleverly is over confident, he is very much underestimating Kovalev. He believes that Kovalev can only fight 3 or 4 rounds, then run out of gas. I think he is wrong.

 

That's the only viable reason I can think of why Cleverly took that fight.
I mean, he's a pretty smart kid, and he too should have seen how Kovalev handeled Campillo. And he too seems smart enough to see past the record of the Spanish dude, knowing he is one of the most robbed guys in todays boxing.

Let's be realistic about this fight.
There's always a chance the majority of the fans, media and bookies are completely of the mark. It happens all the time in boxing, but there still a much bigger chance they're right.
How would that reflect on Cleverly? Because let's face it, it's his first real test since he got the freebee WBO belt, and he probably picked the most dangerous guy out there out of the crop.

 

W*rren is no mug and would not have put his lead fighter in with somebody on a whim and without being sure of himself whatever Cleverly's camp would've thought about Kovalev.

And things get blown up - like Kovalev's record in which his handling of Campillo is seen as a benchmark. This being the same Campillo who had already been KO'd in his career prior to fighting Kovalev and is primarily being lauded here for a disputed points loss to Cloud; Cloud of course being the guy who put in one of the most timid and pathetic performances you could hope to see in losing to a 48 yr old who wasn't exactly fighting at the pace of a run away train.

Kovalev looks frightening and KO artists usually do until they are stepped up properly, and W*rren is pretty sure this is a bigger step up for Kovalev than it is for Cleverly. I think he's right and when Kovalev realises fairly early on that he isn't knocking Cleverly out it wil be a long night for him.
