no, it is not irelevant... the question is clear.. the biggets punchers? foreman and shavers did hit harder than tyson, dempsey, marciano and louis, nobody is talking about the most accurate puncher.... foreman did hit harder than them. by the way... foreman stopped joe frazier in 2 rounds... tell me what fighter did stop dempsey who was even close as good as frazier?.... i am waiting... and marciano? marciano is not the best example if you want to talk about great rivals.

mike tyson is not a fighter with heavy hands, but with his mass and speed he could hit like a mother..., he is a top 5 hardest punchers for sure.

Heavy hands very true. Dempsey or Louis may have had more one punch ko power because of accuracy, speed and technique. Foreman however was indeed a killer...a monster. Most powerful human being I've ever seen in the ring. A human force of nature. I remember to this day the summer of 74 watching him hit a 300 pound bag....everyone seemed frightened that was watching. It was scary how much power he generated. Pushed that bag around like it was nothing. 300 pound bag mind you...like it was nothing.

I've seen Shavers and Foreman hit heavy bags. It was not close. Foreman pushed around a 300 pound bag like Shavers did a normal bag. Shavers could hit a ton but Foreman was much more powerful. Inhuman.

a big punch without accuracy is a miss. There is no point having a big punch if it misses at the top level or prevents a perfect connection landing "just right" once the opposition improves.

Being able to knock out world level opposition is relevant when assessing power and hard punches.in order to be relevant they have to land! it is the whole point!

Tyson (when he wanted to be) was one of the most accurate of the punchers. I dont think he hit as hard as people say, but he was so damn accurate. Look at the Ko of Spinks and the ko of Botha.

I gotta say that I think Tyson did hit as hard as his reputation implied.
That Berbick KO always stuck with me, Ive never seen anything like that again. I believe Foreman's physical strength contributes to his punching power and he hits harder than Tyson. There were fighter who took plenty of shots from both (Foreman and Tyson) however these were tough cagey fighters (Ali, Peralta, Ribalta, Tillis, respectively) Botha KO is a great shot
I believe that is a testament to Tyson's power as well as his accuracy. Botha barely got hit before that. Foreman Frazier 1 is the most frightening display of HW punching power imo, there was an alternate camera angle
of that fight, even more terrifying. The reason Louis had more one shot
KOs is because of the accuracy so its hard not to count accuracy, so yes
agree. Mike not as much brute strength but the whole package. He and Foreman literally sent guys flying across the ring.

good post. i have seen numerous heavyweights workout and hit the bag including a young foreman, tyson, cooney , quarry others. cooney with one hand may have hit harder than any of them - very impressive to say the least, foreman swung harder than hell - when he got older he punched better. but you have to land well for 15 rounds and the tops were imo the three above. cheers

Foreman never fought Shavers. I've seen both men in training.....Foreman had scary power. I'd pick him over Shavers.

Pretty much how i see it. Foreman was bigger, stronger and hit harder, Tyson was much more accurate

Its like comparing an RPG to a Sniper Rifle

    Yep.

And George's "anywhere" punch. The one Angie Dundee talked about before the Foreman fight. Just how many heavies can take that kind of shot anyway? There are far fewer heavies that take great body punishment compared to head shots.

And George would throw it and didn't care if he got countered or hit in return because the other guy's shot was not equal. Very very tough to deal with.

Are we calling George Foreman a liar now? He said Earnie was the hardest puncher, thats it. Same as Ali, he says the same thing.
