source : http://www.fightsaga.com/news/item/3243-Mayweather-vs-Canelo-Winner-to-Face-Sergio-Martinez it wont be until summer 2014 when he comes back from injury, he also does not rule out chavez jr rematch. martinez will not be retiring. he said he has 2 more fights with HBO and then he can think about it
I say let him go out with the huge payday vs the winner. He can drain himself to 154 and be outboxed by Mayweather or be in a close fight(likely lose) to Canelo. Either way he can go out with a huge payday and not be humiliated by being KTFO in 2-3 rds vs Golovkin. Sergio cant take huge punches no more and he doesnt deserve to be fed to Golovkin.:-(
yer i feel the same way id like him to go out on top but with his injuries is really sliding fast.. id rather him loose to mayweather or canelo atleast at 154 against mayweather he gets outboxed not brutally ko'd
My sentiments exactly. He's done far too much for the sport to be brutalized to make a point. I could see him beating Quillin and probably Geale, but only b/c Geale dont have that thunder and Quillin is just another Lacy. But GGG is the realest deal we've seen since Hagler, Calzaghe, Jones Jr, or Toney. An absolute beast. Martinez proved he was the best of the last era. But he conquered his weight classes very late in his career. He shouldnt have to pass the torch. He should be able to purposefully cash out.:think
Brilliant and cowardly step by Martinez. On the one hand, he could make his last big payday before he retires, no matter if he win or loses. There will definetly not be an knockout lose. Cowardly, because he avoids GGG and the knockout in the first 4 rounds.
quote from article: "If Martinez is signed with HBO for his next two bouts, how will be able to fight Mayweather or Canelo, both of which are Showtime fighters, anytime soon?" This thread is a joke
Cowardly?????? Martinez was at his best 3 yrs ago. GGG was a relative unknown. So you think a shot to shlt Martinez should take his embarrassing KO loss to prove the point that Golovkin is the worlds best MW? How is that right? You think Martinez should be massacred because a few GGG haters who DKSAB think Martinez would win.nono:nono
Ironically Lennox Lewis was at his best '3 years ago' as well when he fought Prime Vitali Klitschko. Lewis not only took Vitali to the deep end.. he also ended up stopping him on cuts. It's funny how the double standards are... Martinez not only is allowed to retire.. he's allowed to NOT EVEN FIGHT GGG because nobody wanna see him get knocked out. Lewis actually STOPPED Vitali.. yet he's still NOT allowed to retire. At least he fought Klitschko. And yes.. Lennox's best was from 96-00(with his peak around 99-00) so he was 3 years past his best when he fought Vitali.
hey i just completely overlooked that... hmm maybe he has something up his sleeve but i cant see any way to get around the issues with hbo and showtime...
there is always an estigma with retiring on top.. people want to see you pass the torch but if you have given the sport your all and fought TOUGH opponents like lewis did i have no issue with them retiring on top...
Martinez doesn't deserve a pay day, he has beat no one, his best wins are against Pavlik and Paul Williams...Sergio has a **** poor resume and if he still wants us as fans to watch him fight, he needs to challenge himself against the rising middle weights or super middles, people like to **** on Floyds resume but no one seems to realize how lacking Sergios is, he has two decent wins, nothing spectacular and a bunch of recent wins against Euro level B- fighters... Sergio fight Golovkin, Quillin, Ward or get the fukk out the sport...stop chasing lower weight paydays...
Oh **** off you clown. In his last 8 fights his opponents have had a combined record of 271-6 and 4 of them were undefeated. **** poor resume? He cleaned out the division and was rightfully one of the top pound for pound boxers in the world.
