We dont have to go back that far to the duran era, if floyd fought at welterweight in the 90s he wouldnt be as dominant at all. Prime dlh, tito, forrest, quartey, whitaker, hurtado, carr, mosley are all capable of giving floyd a L on his record and all are better than anything fighting in the WW division currently.

I don't think you can have a fighter like floyd and say he'd just be another guy in my era.. he wouldn't be that in any era..
floyds in an unlucky predicament, he makes good fighters look so bad that you forget they were supposed to be a tough fight.. he is also unlucky that he's in an era where there was only one other 'elite' fighter and the fight never happened. I even think, say if he beats canelo and then canelo goes onto be a great.. they'l still say in 10 years time... oh that fight was too soon for canelo he'd beat him if they fought now canelos at this level...

Lets, let floyd play out the rest of his career, see where he ends up.. theres no denying though, that already he'l be one of the most successful boxers to of ever fought!

i have a different spin.in durans era, floyd might not have been so quick to jump up in weight.pacquiao broner or no one else jumping.floyd and manny would've stayed closer to NATURAL weight.140

Floyd may have been just another guy in his era, depending on who he fought at what time and whether he won. Let's be honest, Floyd was never going to garner fame from his safety first boxing style. His meals tickets were a man he himself called a club fighter in Gatti and a well past prime DLH. I'm not the boxing historian guy but, Floyd got pretty lucky to have found two very popular fighters who were able to stay popular past their prime and one who's style was always tailor made...not sure he'd a had such a favorable scenario back then.

Floyd would have been a respectable fighter in Durans era , he would have survived against Duran (banged up a little bit) but would have been knocked out by Hearns/Leonard . He def would not be undefeated and viewed as supernatural as he is today . He also would have never been a champ at 154 .

With the mugabis and Hearns running around in that division , he would have stay the hell away from 154 . If he was pushed to fight either of them like he was recently pushed to fight Canelo , than he gos into a fake retirement like he did in 07 .

But i do disagree with Duran .

Cintron is "just another guy" . Floyd is naturally gifted so that right there would prevent him from being " just another guy" in any era .

If you think about it, Duran's era or eras were filled with some of the best of all time, so for him to have done so much it might seem natural for him to not see Floyd eye to eye. I mean, sure he seemingly quit against SRL, but c'mon, this wasn't Baldomir or Judah he was facing. Even at 154 where Duran was unimpressive and on a slide losing to Benitez would still be the toughest fight for Floyd at 154, where he hasn't looked too impressive either. Duran beating Leonard is easy top 3 win in boxing history. Floyd still lacks that career defining win. Castillo pretty much his only true rival.

Floyd has a better resume than Duran. Floyd also was in a very competitive era so the era has nothing to do with it. I've been alive for both eras and Floyd was not in a weak era. This era is as comparable to Duran's as any and Floyd is still undefeated.

Cotto tested him and Floyd still won. Let's not act like Floyd hasn't been tested, it's just Floyd is unique. I don't think Duran would have been able to win a fight with Floyd 9 out of 10 times.

I don't think so. I do think Hearns would have been his most difficult fight but I do think it's a winnable fight for him. Hearns could be outboxed and so could Duran.

Mugabi is someone Floyd would avoid.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

First , you gotta keep in mind that these comparisions are prime for prime.
Hearns, Duran, Leonard would all have beaten Floyd.

Hearns and Leonard rather in dominating fashion at welterweight.

Duran by decision at lightweight, that one would be more competitive. . Duran was possibly the best lighgweight ever.

Comparisons are prime for prime, otherwise they are worthless.

At his best, Duran was at lightweight. He would give Floyd more than he can handle, just think how much trouble Floyd had twice against Castillo.

i don't see the quotes as contradictory, but think you've misinterpreted him. he's saying floyd is the best around now, but back then he'd've been another of the guys at the level of duran himself, hearns etc.
