i don't think he could have kept making weight at 160. i remember he struggled to make 160 vs bhop. he was more comfortable at 168. h2h you could have made an arugment for roy but resume wise he wouldn't have had the opponents to pass someone like greb or any of the other top middles.
he would get bored of MW, it wasn't in his personality to stay in one division. SO no he didn't have the 'grind' to stay at that level alone. Too much ambition.
Roy was a gigantic middleweight. He held speed and power advantages over nearly everyone at that weight. Assuming he could continue to make that weight without killing himself and get the right opponents, he could have definitely been a top 3 middleweight of all time.
Jones never learned the inside game or how to fight off the ropes....skills he'd need fighting ATG level MWs. Let's not go nuts over RJJ..he was good for his era and ONLY his era.
was reading a corking wee debate from an earlier time here on esb about how good Roy was http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=287951
The answer is NO!!!! To be regarded as one of the greatest Roy would have to take on all comers not fight policemen teachers & garbage collectors while ducking his real competition. Mayweather is in same situation both are just talented wannabees
He was too big to stay there for long. Wasn't he weighing in at 180 at Super MW? His most natural weight seemed to be LHW.
The Bull, Fullmer, Fitzimmons, and Sugar Rao would have worn him down over 15. Hagler mightve beaten him too
