Pac has always been a favorite of mine, but never even thought twice about PEDS having anything to do with his KO by JMM. He go hit by a perfect counter punch from a boxer with a long history of highlight-reel KO's.

    OK, good.

So why then after such a very long time covering the sport have you now resigned yourself to accepting the reality of rampant PED use and giving up the ghost on celebrating those preserving their integrity (or even so much as doling out the benefit of the doubt that anyone does) or damning those who don't?

I applaud those that preserve their integrity. That goes for sports or business. But, there's no way to curb cheaters with so much at stake.

So should they be excused from avoiding tests, etc.?

Not once did I propound avoiding drug tests, if that's the state of the art, but it proves nothing, with chemists finding new ways around it.

That really doesn't answer my question. Do you think it's ok for fighters like Manny Pacquiao avoid tests with ****amamie non-scientific excuses?

I don't think any fighter should avoid testing if that's the agreement made when signing for the fight. But, if a fighter -- like Mayweather -- wants to impose a new requirement (under the guise of boxing's savior) to get a psychological edge, a proud opponent should tell him to FO

Fanboys here can't handle the fact that their idols do everything what it takes to win.

"Not in boxing. Not my hero." ..like children..:conf

Yeah if you know for a fact that the bolded is actually the case.

But anyway, what if the proud opponent just makes up BS and lies and then tries to see if he can know when he'll be tested?

I actually agree with John. The fact of the matter is the realm of sports has continued to evolve.....introducing a lot of different wrinkles in the effort to push the ELITE level athletes to more extreme limits.

The fact is those who want to take PEDs do....and get away with it. Those who don't use OTHER methods that essentially produce the same outcome but are considered "OK".

The human body has it's limits, but evolution can't be stopped....We can however assist in speeding up the process through scientific avenues and research. We are learning more about the human body and how far we can push by the studies that have taken place over the years.

Sports Science and Medical Nutrition is real....and an integral part of not just the "Sweet Science" but all sports. We have found ways to speed up the healing process, recovery process and enhance performance.

For out most extremely conditioned athletes who put their bodies through constant rigors it would be silly to believe they are not finding way to recover faster so they can maintain their rigorous training routines.

I understand the dangers of "ABUSE"....I'm not for a "free for all" where anyone can take anything under NO scrutiny....but I am for a REAL solution that has structure.....some framework that regulates this kind of thing.

It's taboo....I know, but so was smoking a little pot in the 80's and so was drinking alcohol during the prohibition. People take drugs every day....Normal people...like you and me...Tylenol, steriods, anti-biotics....

Athletes have different physiological needs that require different kinds of drugs. Doing it under the table without regulation is more dangerous than acting as if no one sees the big, pink elephant in the room.

The fact that there are top fighters, who are concerned with it, and don't want to face opponents that dope up, take hormones, ect should be the call to all fans to back those fighters

I believe most top fighters are on something, but to think that every single one of them are, is being as close minded as the naivety of believing that most aren't.

So, I am against PEDs because theres many fighters out there that want to compete 'naturally', and what 'naturally' is, is a blurred line..... but that line has to be drawn somewhere, and if that's with PEDs, then that's where I stand.

Concern doesn't necessarily equate to those fighters being clean....as we can see with recent events within our sport. Just like not agreeing to the craze of Voluntary testing doesn't equate to guilt.

The truth is the current testing really isn't sufficient...especially for the top fighters who have the means to get the kind of drugs that are designed to be undetectable.

Of course I respect your stance....I'm merely just speaking my mind and offering a little perspective with regards to the current state of drug testing in boxing. There's a greater probability that we can regulate Performance enhancing drugs in sports than eliminate it.

Just like on a greater scale with the naive "WAR ON DRUGS"....we will never win that war but there's reasons that war will continue to thrive...for similar reasons it will continue to rage on within the world of sports.

Of course. But again, to assume there are NO 'clean' top fighters, to me, is as blind as believing that most aren't. And imo, those 'clean' fighters should be defended and protected.

Exactly. And that's because the establishment itself is not truly interested in a clean sport. I would rather go the route of better and better testing, with huge penalties placed on those that get caught, rather then making doping completely legal.

    :good

If boxing was truly interested in stopping doping, there would be a whole lot less of it going on. But they (promoters, trainers, ect) aren't, and in fact they often feed off of it.

    anyways, its just imo.

I see your stance entirely though, and I do see why some would be in favor of legalizing it. I cant though, in defense of the fighters who wish to compete, and have the right to compete, in a PED free sport.
