What would Wilder have to improve to have a chance against Wlad?

I think his lack of amateur fights is one thing. Also, he started his career much older than most do.


I guess we don't agree on this. I think he should fight a gradual increase in competition, and fight more often. I would be trying to get him on the Broner-Maidana card if it gets made for early November.... or possible sooner than that.

 

That old chestnut... Dereck Chisora started fighting in 2005 after watching Ricky Hatton fight Kostya Tszyu, he didn't have too many amateur fights either, when was tha tever an excuse for Chisora? He earned his reputation the hard way, by fighting top rated fighters in hard fights

 

I'm not taking anything from Chisora. I admire the way he stepped his game up quickly. I think he's also a more durable fighter than Wilder is at this point.


I think Wilder has better potential to be great, which is why I don't have a problem with them bringing hi along slowly, BUT only as long as they keep improving his level of competition.. and get him in with someone who has a PROVEN chin.

 

what is it you see in Wilder that makes you so optimistic? I just see another athletic guy who is very flawed but just has the power and the right opponents until now to hide them, David Lemiiex looked like a killer for quite a while, taking everyone out, yet when he actually fought someone on the upper levels, he got executed, we've seen this happen with hyped punchers all the time (Remember a guy called David Price, he looked VERY good for a while.. Seth Mitchell was a bigger hype than Wilder for a while, til he fought someone who had actually fought on the top level, that bubble burst in a hurry)

But I think his problems are those that require putting in work. And I think they can be corrected if he's handled properly.


He's not that good? Well then he doesn't deserve to fight some of the upper fighters until he develops himself. Different fighters take longer times. Simple really.


I'm just willing to ignore the fan hype and detractors and have him brought along gradually. Just because a lot of fans are hyped about him doen;t mean he's ready yet.

 

It's not even the hype, it's just can we at least see him fight a live body before we get that hype? yeah 29-0(29 KO) looks good on paper, but we as true fans know better than that

 

Wilder needs to shorten his hooks up. Right now the hooks look more like slaps. He needs to work on his footwork to put him in proper position to land good hooks. Not those slapping shots. He hit Sergei with a slapping hook right before the final sequence.

His defense is not existent right now. He needs to work on that.

Combination punching, throwing crisp punches. Right now the only crisp shots he lands are the jab sometimes, and the big right hand.

 

No one said he would kill pulev Jesus Christ give it a rest, we know pulev is good man we've got it. Fury is okay and can get wild at times with poor footwork and average power. Wilder has ridiculous power and is too upright at times with poor footwork early on, and shuffles occasionally, once he's relaxed he is scary. That's an honest assessment

 

He should fight some big European Heavyweights his own size to prepare for the Klitschko's. Spar with them as well.

He can beat up on shot fighters and cans, give him that.

 

The thing about the jab. The jab doesn't need to be placed in order to make things more difficult for Wladimir.

The jab should be used as a distraction and keep popping it in Wladimirs face or gloves or whatever just to keep him busy. If Wladimir gets into his jab game it's over.

 

you dont know what fighters are truly made of until they step up against contenders who are there for a reason

guys like arreola and chisora will be fights that will show what wilder is really made of

 

All Wilder has to do is connect with one shot to win. Is that really out of the realms of possibility?
