He's been the # 1 P4P fighter for almost a decade now, since Roy jones was defeated handily by Antonio Tarver.

His length of reign has been incredible, the only knock on him is the year long layoffs he took ever since his victory over Oscar.

But to his defense, he came back every time and took on elite level fighters, never took a "tune up" fight.

That should all be factored in with his perfect record up to this point. No one can make a claim JMM is higher than him, he got absolutely destroyed when he attempted to jump up from Lightweight to fight FLoyd. Even Marquez has stated several times since getting dominated that he'd never want to fight Floyd again as he would expect the results in a sequel to be no different (words directly from Dinamita's mouth.)

There used to be many people that could make a strong argument for manny being at the top of the rankings, but since he's lost 2 consecutive bouts it's clear Floyd is the # 1 boxer in the world. You can't make a claim for Rigo who only has 12 or 13 fights under his belt, Andre Ward who has been on the shelf for the better part of a year or Sergio who's been off for quite some time now and has looked extremely sluggish in his past few fights. Floyd is the P4P #1 guy right now and it's not even close tbh.

thats just it, its not based on your entire career. your career can be used as evidence to separate you from another close competitor, but p4p is a ranking of who is the best fighter at this particular time, so you have to consider things like decline and improvement when assessing where a particular fighter currently stands in terms of quality.

they way i think p4p works is resume and skill set. plus if the guys were in the same weight class who would win.

NO way can u rank JMM over Mayweather. first off they fought and he didnt win 1 round against Mayweather. and u must be doing that because he KO Pac but he's been outboxing Pac for years now so that win doesnt leap frog Mayweather or even Ward, especially when they havent lost.

Ward is #2 because he won the super six and has dominated almost everybody.

Mayweather is #1 because hes only had 1 close fight his whole career and took a lay off and came back and dominated HOF'ers. plus if him and Ward was in the same weight class mayweather would beat him

Dude do you people all realize Mayweather has been on the p4p list for 3 decades. Since about 98/99 all but 2 years has he been on and at the top of the list til 13, and in that timespan he's beaten countless champions and outside of Pacquaio/Tyzu anybody you can name he didn't fight I can name a more accomplished fighter who in some cases just beat the fighter you say he should have fought.

As far as the fighters today he's doing nothing more than what everybody else is doing fighting highly ranked fighters in and around his division.

Ward fought in a tourney to crown the best at 168 nobody really thinks Ward will lose at 168 but they still wanna see rematches of guy's like Froch, Kessler maybe a fight with Bute.

Marquez recently has loss to Mayweather fought Pacquiao twice and is currently set to fight Bradley in Oct the Pacquiao KO was sensational I honestly was at a loss for word when I saw it live, but he's imo has beaten Pacquiao all 4 times still it's a great run especially at 40.

Mayweather recently has shout out Marquez won 3 WW title fights one by KO beating two Champs and the #1,3 and 3 ranked fighter at Welter and is currently a 2 weight Champ beating the #1 fighter for the belt and is now fighting the current #1 fighter for the undisputed Title although at a bull**** catchweight.

You can complain about Guerrero but he was a mandatory defense and is a better fighter than a Rios or a Provodnikov two recent opponents of two fellow p4pers Bradley and Pacquiao. You can complain about his JMW belt against Cotto, but Cotto didn't win a REAL belt til he hit 154 vs Foreman hell Foreman a LEGIT 154 Champ was ducked by Pacquiao in favor of Margarito a unranked punching bag coming off a suspension and KO loss for a fake belt that same year.

I might catch flack for this but as a non Cotto fan I honestly view his losses against Mayweather and Trout as better wins than Margarito I and Pacquiao.
Margarito took his 0 but there's Question marks there with the hand wrap scandal but it was a war for both sides.
Pacquiao caught him at the worst point of his career coming off his first loss in brutal fashion and arguable loss/HARD fight against Clottey at a CW coupled with personal drama ie. no Trainer, family deaths ect... yet he still give Pac a broken ear drum
Mayweather caught him coming off a win in the Margarito rematch which is meaningful because Margo took his 0 and although he physically wash't in his prime mentally he was a better fighter with Pedro Diaz in his corner all May had was a bloody nose.
Trout caught him off a spirited performance vs May and loss in a competitive fight.

There is a probably close to 40 - 50 lbs difference between Ward and Chisora, Mayweather weighed 150 lbs for the Ortiz fight, Marquez was weighing mid 140s for his fights at light weight.

Mayweather likely weighed 150-155 lbs for Marquez.

Its kinda hard to beat Floyd when he finds every excuse in the book not to fight his LEGITIMATE opponents. IF Floyd had faced Paquaio when he should have , If Floyd had accepted the $8 mil to fight Margarito, but instead fought Baldomir for way less. If Floyd fought anywhere else but at home in Vegas , where he has the Commission & their officials as neighbors. You only have to look at Floyd - Hatton. Joe Cortez was not the only reason Floyd won the fight, but it seemed he was there to make sure Hatton never got the chanc to win.
Had Floyd gone ahead & fought these guys he'd likely still have beaten them all and would have to be regarded by EVERYONE as the P4P #1. Had he even lost one , or even two, his resume would be much higher than it is today. To me today Floyd is just an incredibly talented WANNABEE!!!!!!!!.
If anyone deserves credit in the upcoming Floyd - Canelo fight its Canelo. Can you imagine Floyd having the balls to fight Canelo in Mexico city or even Texas!!!!!!!??????????
Once again the playing field is again heavily tilted favoring Floyd & Canelo will need a miracle to be successful. I hope that miracle happens

JMM is a great fighter, but he and Floyd already fought and Floyd won every round, so the idea that he's better than Floyd is absurd.

Floyd went life and death with way past it Oscar De La Hoya, Pacman made him quit. Wlad is P4P number 1, Ward nr2, Floyd third. WWF brothas.

He didn't lose because Floyd was bigger though. He lost because Floyd was faster, sharper and just a flat out better boxer. Floyd didn't use his size to bully him. He used his speed and skill to completely nullify JMM's offense and pick him apart.

Floyd clearly won that fight and Oscar didn't come into the ring hooked up to an IV like he did against Pacquiao. :deal
