It was surprising for me to see Kovalev being the bookies favourite despite being the challenger and the away fighter which shows this is a tough match up. All questions regarding this fight will be answered once we see Cleverly take a solid shot, which I think is inevitable.

The problem with Froch-Abraham was AA was a MW moving up, was by far the smaller man against Froch and had the basic German high guard style suitable for Froch, while Kovalev is a natural LHW with a respectful amateur career.

I agree with what you are saying about Froch/AA, I made athread predicting Froch to win and saying wouldnt be shocked if it was clear. I know there are big differences between all of the fighters mentioned but have a feeling Nathan will be landing often like Froch did against AA and that Kovalev will not be throwing as much as it goes on.
Still as you say, tough match up.
I think Nathan will take a solid shot at some point but not as often as he usually does, as he will know of Kovalevs rep for KOs and possibly cover up more than usual I think.

http://youtu.be/C-ewmdVVmTE I think kovalev's money punch will be the uppercut, because cleverly has a bad habbit of leaning in with his head with no upper-body or head-movement.

Check out Cleverly vs Kuziemski (indefensible stoppage) and even the Murat fight. Both ended in very questionable stoppages - I'm really hoping the Nelson family ain't officiating in this fight.

Let's just wait and see shall we, Just so as I don't appear a fence rider - KOvalev TKO5, but this is one of the very few fights when I'd be happy with either winner, so long as it ain't a PTS robbery.

Cleverly by clear points win, or late stoppage.

i'm feeling pretty strongly on the late stoppage you know. can just see Kovalev finding it real hard after 6-7 rounds. that pace will get to him.

    :huh

it was the corner that pulled out in the Murat fight. the ref then waived it off.

If it gets to the later rounds cleverly will look worse then he did the second half of his fight with Nadjib Mohammedi. People also forget that kovalev is a vicious body puncher also and the type of power that kovalev has, and, i think it will be cleverly who will be gassed halfway through the fight from the punishment he takes if it goes that long.

    oh really.

only a week to go, so sit back and relax. because you're in for a big shock.

i'm looking forward to all the reactions of those that picked Kovalev by destruction just as much as the fight it self. :yep

and has anybody noticed the fall in those talking about Kovalev destroying Cleverly?

    i've noticed that.

they did the same for the Chisora vs Scott fight.

No. Though you are correct it wasn't a ref stoppage. Referee invited Doc. stoppage in that case despite there being no injury which would inhibit Murats ability to fight or any likelihood of long term fighter injury.

It is fair to say that Clev was winning fairly handily, but also obvious that Murats only chance was a flash late knockdown. Murat was denied that opportunity in a fairly blatant manner, despite being perfectly able to go on fighting.

I'm hoping that I'm viewing without prejudice, but try watching the fight again and decide for yourself.

(Incidentally it was the same ref in both cases -Mark Nelson, who also refed the Krasniqi fight - his father was also a judge in both the Murat and Krasniqi fights. I will suspect that if Nelson Jr and Sr are officiating on the 17th Kovalev will need to ensure the KO)

You're absolutely right in my case. I only picked Kovalev up at the Campillo fight, and when the White fight came around, I started to convince myself that he couldn't destroy another reasonably placed boxer in the same fashion.

    He did.

Now the Clev fight is approaching, I'm feeling exactly the same doubts - no one can carry on smashing opposition outta the way like that, surely.

I just don't goddamn know. My gut isn't telling me one way or another, but I've watched every available fight from both of them like some kinda OCD oddball in the last few weeks and my head is saying Kovalev.

    Oh yeah. By TKO.

Cleverly had all he could handle with tony B. He will find Kovalev to be much harder to hit. And although Cleverly showed a good chin against Tony, Kovalev does not hit hard sometimes, ALL HIS PUNCHES ARE HARD. Kovalev will stop Cleverly late, maybe 9th round.

Cleverly is underestimating Kovalev. He believes it will be his easiest fight. Could this be because the fix is in? Cleverly has his own personal referee and judges, we all know that Kovalev will have to knock Cleverly out to get a draw. If Cleverly gets into trouble, will his referee come to help him out? The judges have already filled out their cards. With all that, I still pick Kovalev by TKO or KO.................

I hope that if Cleverly outboxes Kovalev to deserved points victory you will be man enough to come on here and give him credit for it, considering the fact that I have seen you repeatedly alledge that this fight is going to be fixed and the only way Cleverly can win is by having the ref and judges paid off to favour him.

Have you ever heard of a home town decision? Look what happened to Khan when he fought Peterson in Washington, D.C.
