The case for Floyd Mayweather not being the No. 1 fighter in the world.

Ward fought Dawson last September if he doesn't fight again before September this year(which looks very likely) he will be removed from the rankings. But his level of activity is no different than Floyds has been the past few years and I doubt you think Floyd should have been removed from the rankings in 2009,10,11,12.

As for Floyd's "record and dominance" speaking for itself as I have pointed out several times in this thread P4P is not based on your entire career it is based on who are the ten best boxers in the world today.

activity is not Floyd's strong suit, that is for sure. Ward is injured and having promoter problems so I guess he should be given a little extra time

 

Floyd is averaging a fight every eleven months but its not his relative inactivity that's keeping me from putting him in the top spot.

Using his logic, the top 10 P4P list consists of 10 vacancies.

 

I think Marquez should have been crowned #1 when he beat Pacquiao in the robbery of November, or the KO the following year. Pacquiao was the near-universal P4P king above Mayweather. Marquez beating him should bump him up, not Mayweather. You don't bump up a person who beat you 3 years ago when you dethrone the king, you inherit the crown yourself. That's not me being a JMM fan, that's me using recent accomplishments for rankings, as it should be.

 

I agree that JMM ko pac is great but they fought 4 times, JMM is smart boxer and after 4 fights he should have his number, Would JMM fight Floyd 4 times, I doubt it he would lose worse each time.

 

Ortiz and Guerrero are two pointless fights, only decent case to be made for Guerrero is that he was his mandatory. The rest were all good fights. Cotto was the WBA champion at junior middleweight and proved to be a competitive opponent. Mosley was the #1 welterweight when Mayweather fought him and the man to beat at the weight at the time. JMM was a joke fight on paper but later proved to be a solid opponent who's style is made for Mayweather. His next opponent is the #1 JMW.

 

He would lose similarly if not worse, Mayweather's style is simply wrong for him. If Marquez knew he had a chance he wouldn't have publicly stated that a rematch is pointless and unnecessary since people know what happened in the first fight already. Why wouldn't he seek a rematch and a major payday if he knew he had a shot?

 

I can't agree witht that logic. First off, Pacquiao was not universally the P4P King. Many publications were split on who was number 1. Second, Pacquiao rose to the number 1 spot by default due to Mayweather's activity. I'm not sure how anyone could rank Marquez number 1 with a straight face. It flies in the face of all logic. Marquez was thoroughly dominated by Mayweather. He can't leapfrog Mayweather without Mayweather losing, retiring, or looking bad in the ring. None of that has happened.

Very true JMM is a great fighter and I have been a fan for years but he is Maybe #4 P4P at best.

The problem is Pac wasn't really the P4P king anyone who knows the sport knew PBF was. Pac didn't earn the title PBF retired briefly.:deal Even JMM himself said PBF was the best fighter in the sport and not Pac. You can't put JMM to #1 when he was shut out and schooled by PBF it makes no sense. Not only that he lost to Pac in Pac-JMM 3 even though I felt he deserved the decision.
