Implying that the Pratchett win was somehow a gift is ridiculous. I saw that fight and Chavez dominated. Pratchett was tough and durable and game, but he was beaten soundly and those scorecards were perfectly legitimate.

It is amazing how the author gives short shrift to really impressive victories. Mario Martinez was no slouch and that was a heck of a fight. Ruben Castillo was a fine fighter who gave Sal Sanchez all he could handle. Chavez surgically dismantled him. Mayweather could give anyone hell, and Chavez blew threw him the first time, and gradually wore him down the second. Ramirez was a very strong, durable, underrated fighter who beat a lot of good fighters. The Taylor "controversy" gets less controversial with time. Objectively, the fact is that he was not responsive to the question 'are you okay,' which means he was not. All fighters know that if you go down and you want to continue when you get up, you look at the ref, raise your gloves and say "I'm okay."

Good post. I didn't see the controversy in the laPorte fight, either.

There's no way that writer has any possible chip on his shoulder. Nope, none at all. A very fair and balanced article that contains no supposition, exaggeration, or manipulation whatsoever.

LaPorte was close and competitive, but Chavez won. A close win is not a loss. An nothing to be ashamed of - LaPorte was a darn good fighter.

I was always disgusted with how Randall was robbed in the second fight and Julio was all too happy to go with it ... Chavez was great at 130 and 135 but after that he was beatable ... Whitaker diced him ..

When Chavez fell off physically, he also fell off mentally. But can't blame him too much after around 100 fights and 25 or so title bouts. That said, Chavez wasn't in charge of judge's scorecards.

Pedro Fernandez is a bonafide ego driven idiot.

He puts up articles. Allows comments, but deletes any comments that shoots down the premise of his article.

Right after Juan Manuel Marquez boxed the pants off of Manny Pacquiao in fight 3, I politely responded in the comments section to one of Pedro's articles. Took it apart and pointed out things in it that were just simply erroneous, things that were just not true.
Within 10 minutes my comment had been deleted.
Deleted for politely exposing his article as fabrication.

I emailed Pedro and never got a response.
That tells you all you need to know about Pedro Fernandez and his website.
His radio show is crap also! :!:

The original JCC is one of the greatest fighters in boxing history; its not his fault a bunch of bums wanted to brawl with him.

It does not excuse character. It was as crooked a display of the nadir of the Don King reign as I have ever seen ... the Randall theft especially ... the fact that Julio went with it and did not demand a third fight to prove he was the better man untill many years later when Randall was a broken shell tells me a lot about the person Chavez turned into ..
