Yes, but if you look at his other comments, it rather suggests that Bellew has that opinion of Kovalev himself. e.g.: Tony Bellew ‏@TonyBellew Ill say this only once! Golovkin = P4P Kovalev = Strong/Limited There is NO comparison.
Bellew is trying to downplay Cleverly's achievements if he pulls of an unlikely win and that's something that's the worst thing you can do in pro-boxing circles. It shows a lack of respect towards fighter, Say everything you want after the fight but not before. Tony shouldn't criticize Cleverly who's a world champ and is now fighting the most avoided fighter in the world! There is a reason why Hopkins ducked this guy!
Whatever way you choose to look at it he has not said directly that Kovalev is a hype job. It's simply a case of the same old idiots on here who collectively have the intelligence of a gnat being incapable of deciphering the modern English language and managing to complety misconstrue what someone has said. No surprise ButeTheBeast is the thread starter. When God was giving out logic and the ability to use intelligence he was off digging for worms.
Bellew initially states the reason he thinks Kovalev has been chosen and then goes on to downplay Kovalev as a fighter himself. He's entitled to his opinion but if he'd just left it after the initial opener he wouldn't have come across as something of a bitter tit
Even if Kovalev wins I think he still unproven as Cleverly has only thought bums and it's a disgrace how he is a world champion when he has only thought no name figthers. People slag of Wlad choice of opponents, but his choice of opponents is amazing compared to Nathans. I'm hoping though that both Clev and Barker win as we need as much British champions as possible. Bellew only get's stick because he says it how it is.
Well he's entitled to his opinion. I don't see how its "disgraceful". Who knows, Kovalev might be a hype job and Bellew is right, Vince Cleverly has said as much so I don't see why Bellew is getting stick for it. Although he is a complete muppet so it's fair enough.
Not sure how Clev can be compared to Wlad. Wlad is 37 whilst Cleverly is 26 and only really just starting out at world level. To put it in perspective he is younger than Lee Selby
Cleverly needs to get Gareth Bale to walk him to the ring, CREATE SOME REAL HYPE ABOUT THE FIGHT. Make people aware of it.
Anyone who reads Bellew's twitter comments and doesn't think he is running Kovalev down needs to go back to the doctor to get their sphincter tightened up.
To be strict, he didn't call him a "hype job". But that's pretty much the implication you would get from reading his words. So the OP isn't that far off.
I'm not the biggest Bellew fan but he's not saying Kov is a hype job. He's saying CLEV's team think he is a hypejob which is why they made this fight. I personally don't think he is a hypejob. I think Kov is a great boxer but, I think Cleverly is better.
You invalidated your first paragraph when you wrote Kovalev is a great fighter and then wrote Cleverly is better. Clearly neither fighter by any measure or rating is a great fighter.
He's just retweeted someone saying all kovalev has is a punchers chance :rofl Then again I think it's common knowledge that bellew really doesn't know much about boxing. Every fight he's ever predicted or scored has been so far off the mark its unbelievable.
