In 2 more fights, he will break two records

    • Rocky Marciano 49-0 (Chris John has 3 draws though)
    • Eusebio Pedroza 19 title defenses (Both are WBA)

The 49 win thing is cursed unless you look at guys like jcc who lost after 93 fights or something . If he achieves 50-0 then loses it gets wiped out? So he would need to win two and retire ASAP. The draws being allowed doesn't seem right (or Ricardo Lopez would have the record, no?)

The Marciano one is only relevant at heavyweight.

Credit where credit is due, he is the father of JMM.

John's claim to fame will be a gift decision over JMM.

His undefeated record should have stopped at 36 but god bless boxing judges.

I rather see a clean 50-0-0, but I will not argue with draws. Ricardo Lopez was there & the draws sometimes indicate very close fights.

The 20 Title defenses is a world record also, that can't be questioned because the 18 title defense record is also WBA

He really screwed up his career from a legacy standpoint by just staying over in Indonesia. He had a few fights here against Juarez I think, I thought he was going to stay in the US and try to build up his legacy a bit against top level competition.

    Fight # 49 Donaire
    Fight # 50 Rigo

If he wins both, he earns ATG at Feather. Saddler, Sanchez, Pep...etc can step aside :yep

He'll be doing it just in the nick of time, he is knocking on the door of being very shot.

He was already slightly past his prime in the Juarez draw, and while he still displayed world class ability in 2011 and 2012 (highlighted by the the epic all-Indonesian clash with Yordan, which is maybe his best victory considering the quality of the opponent since Marquez) he looked to be having a rough night against Hosono before the cut ended it.

To break those records he will need to be matched carefully, and you're always reaching into a snake pit when cherry picking among ranked contenders. There is always that diamond in the rough...someone we have never heard of could have the current John's number and the jig would be up..

Chris John legacy is questionable so he has to cherry pick ATG quality fights, with Chris John style I think even top 50 guys can give him the same trouble an elite fighter will give him. So he might as well take the risk of fighting 2 big fights to break the record.

Big name option (Both fighters will accept Indonesia)
#49 Donaire: I think John can win a decision, as long as its in Indonesia
#50 Rigo*: He also can win a decision against Rigo as long as its in Indonesia

    or

Unification Option (In the USA, because both are on the up)
    #49 IBF Champion Evgeny Gradovich
    #50 WBC Champion Abner Mares

That way 10 years from Now, he can be a strong case in the Featherweight ATG category
