You can laugh all you want Pibb but Williams' style is exactly what's needed to beat or trouble Mayweather's style. Someone who's overly active, keeps throwing and coming forward, solid chin, good speed, very good power and insane stamina. Add to that the height and reach advantages, which are crazy. That's the type of style that would seriously trouble Mayweather, someone in his face all night throwing punches at anything he could find, whether it's shoulders or chest all night and smother him out of his rhythm.

Even the most overly active fighters see their output drastically cut down against Mayweather.

Williams accuracy and defense were atrocious.

I still think Martinez would have not only beat Floyd but stopped him, Martinez is a speedy, big punching, mobile, southpaw who throws punches in combinations and volume this coupled with his size & strength.

    Everything to give Floyd fits.

That's the key word in a lot of these things- I wonder what floyd would do. We don't have to wonder about basillio or Robinson. Or arguello. Arguello moved up a weight class, fought the top three, moved up again, fought the top three, etc until he ran into Pryor. We don't have to wonder about his career. Much like Holyfield - no room to wonder what would happen - qawi, Tyson, lewis, bowe, valuev, toney, foreman etc - nothing to speculate about, and floyd should have crossed those t's and dotted those i's too. Beating PAC in 2009 would have cemented his legacy forever, and vice versa

And in the rematch Williams blew him out in one. On some nights williams was super elite.

Paquaio & Margarito would have walked right through his pitty pat prancing & taken his head off. Floyd knew that hence he ran from both like a scared rabbit

The only thing is after Floyd beat Oscar, he was only looking for elite fights with guys that already drew crowds/had an established fanbase. As much as I like Williams, he doesn't bring much to the table from a marketing standpoint. Hardcore boxing fans like most here on this site would've known it was one of the top matchups to be made at 147, but Williams just didn't bring much from a financial standpoint.

Since the Hoya win, Floyd has gone on multiple semi-retirements. But each time he comes back, he always takes on top level fighters and most of them were able to sell out arenas on their own, like Hatton who was the undefeated Ring 140 guy, Marquez who clamored for the fight with FLoyd and was an established mexican star after the Pac fights, and Cotto who's the biggest PR star.

It's obviously a trending pattern as to who Floyd picks- they have to bring a combination of being at a top level at the moment boxing-wise and have a pre-established fanbase already (excluding Guerrero and Ortiz.) The only guy he hasn't fought which he absolutely should have was Pacman.

But I still think he'd be undefeated had he taken on loaded Margs, PW (I think close SD) and Pacman. The only one that should've definitely happened was the Manny fight.

    Cool story bro..

but your theory falls down when I mention Guerrero and Ortiz.

How many casual fans know those 2???

Ortiz now maybe after the contraversial ending to the fight with Floyd, but before that nah..

& most people still dnt know or giv a **** about Guerrero

If Paul Williams had been more consitent he posed the greatest threat with his size. However, the way he fought he not only gave up his size. He'd also be open to Mayweather's counters.

Manny Pacquiao's avoiding of Floyd Mayweather is well documanted.

I don't think Martinez would have a good chance based on styles unless it's at 160 where Martinez has the size advantage. To beat Mayweather you need a lot of of stamina and as much as I really like Martinez he lacks stamina. A fighter needs nonstop activity to seriously trouble Mayweather and force him out of his rhythm. Martinez is the type of fighter that boxes and takes time off, that won't be a difficult style for Mayweather to crack through unless Martinez' power troubles him.

Of course his output would drop, that's what is needed. Someone that throws too much that his output would drop. If Mayweather fights someone with no output imagine how much further it would drop. Williams' activity and size advantage would give Mayweather hell. You can laugh all year at this post, I've been Mayweather's fan for over a decade now and know what troubles him. If Castillo, who's basic yet active, gave him fits imagine what Williams would do with height and reach advantage. Even Hatton gave Mayweather a solid fight based on activity. An ugly/dirty fighting style is needed to trouble Mayweather's style, a boxer or a one-dimensional aggressor would end up like Guerrero(boxer) and Baldomir(one-dimensional aggressor).
