Not long ago Mike Tyson was in Poland promoting his Black Energy Drink. He said boxing is and always has been a sport of the poor. Like others have mentioned they are hungrier in Eastern Europe. What he didn't mention is Slavic chromosome also can be attributed. Slavs have always dominated the strength competition in Olympics and other events. They have only been on the scene since the 90's and in 20 years they have a firm hold on boxing. For the people who say this wont last long and they are all 30 and older we will see. You have only seen the 1st wave.

Pleasantly suprised at the reception these fighters are getting on this thread. They are certainly cutting into the traditional demographics of the sport but most fans seem to be open towards the antiquated notion of athletes proving themselves under the rigors of competition not cultivating an edgy, media conscious image.

A paradigm shift in the sport seems to be occuring and it is a shame that some want to keep boxing in the stone ages for their own sense of pride.
