You aren't seriously comparing Cleverly to Joe Frazier? Frazier had legitimately been world champion for several years, had dealt with several top ten opponents and beat Muhammad Ali in the biggest fight in boxing history when that happened to him. Cleverly got stopped by the first top level opponent he had faced. It's not even close to being a similar situation. Nathan Cleverly hasn't proved anything amongst the best in his division yet.
the facts are : clev is just a bit better than the fighters he beat.: he never fought a champion. murat was the best he beat because of hometown cookin. he is not world class even though deluded father keeps telling him he is. will never be world champ under present management. bellew is not better than clev.bellew better not fight kovalev or he will lay on canvas. please let me know if any facts are wrong.
I was not surprised Kov win, but i was surprised how many times Clev actually got buzzed. Here is my take on the fight... Clev's tactics early were a little confusing but i THINK he was just trying to get past the first 3 rounds or so. I am sure he was surprised how technically good Kov was and i am convinced he felt the power as well. He hardly threw anything that troubled Kov and he just didn't have the skill level to out-box someone techically good on the outside as Kov . Clev i felt best chance was to get on the inside minmising Kovs leverage for punching, but as he never had the skill to get inside without taking a whallop i am sure this tactic was only going to work late in the fight. Clevs defence we said here is not the best no upper head movement no feints and to be honest Kov actually found if easy to find him. The knockdown was as we predicted. If clevs tactics was to take it late well wtf happened? it was Kovs boxing skills and power put a stop to that. I HONESTLY think vince is good trainer but against top top trainers i am not convinced he is good for Clev. He needs to rebuilt and possibly look at his backroom staff as he is missing the skill level against world class fighters and he is young enough to learn. He is currently relying on his stamina/chin to much, and that is alone what Vince keeps banging on about for clev to win. On a plus note, Kov might of tired but i just don't think Clev would have the power/skill to stop Kov without getting buzzed and drop again. either way Kov just seems to be operating at a higher level to Clev at the moment. No wonder Hopkins swerved him.
Does anyone know if Clev done an interview after the fight? Been unable to find one online, would be interested to hear what he had to say.
What a load of moronic, narrow minded drivel in this thread. Boxers ultimately fight for themselves to make money, so the idea that I should have to automatically support a guy just because he happens to come from somewhere within close proximity to where I do, is stupid. Unlike some of you lot I can think for myself and don't need shady promoters or the gutter press to tell what to think.
stevenson v dawson tyson v spinks theres two more one sided fights off the top of my head youcomplete ****ing moron
exactly there has been plenty of one sided world title fights in one way or another even if they ended in the first round or went the distance, for example Calzaghe v Lacy or Nelson v Fenech 2 , or quite a few Roy Jones fights where he won every round or stopped them early like montell griffin, IMO Nathan Cleverly is good guy and a good boxer who was able to say he was a champion, and if he does not get back to the 'world level' no shame in it at all, he tried his best and went out for the 4th round, and may or may not bounce back, but whatever he does in life i wish him success like anyone who steps into the ring for professional boxing. and i know it is all just general banter between the fans, I myself have laughed when someone i did not like get bashed about. for example totally pissed myself when Khan got KO by prescott, so as i say just general haha and laughing at the time. I think Clev will be humble and try to make another go of it, if can't it will not be for not trying.
I think Clev is really going to struggle to get over this defeat, to be honest i found it really upsetting to watch.
Clevs will be an accountant with in 3 years, that defeat would of zapped the **** out of him. He's got a degree in maths hasn't he, so he'll probably give it another go then realize he's not going to be the next Joe Calzaghe and he'll **** off to get a real job. When I say real, I mean ****.
nothing wrong in getting a job in any field and being able to claim you were an ex pro boxer let alone winning a title. how would it make you feel ? king of the world i expect , it would me, you are obviously a young lad, but will learn.
