Greb was called the "Pittsburgh Windmill" Armstrong "Hurricane Hank". Its no mystery there`s plenty of film of Armstrong swarming his opponents.

You're not understanding something... The rules say a fighter can ONLY... let's be clear on this... can ONLY be given water. Panama.. Pryor and the audio tape "no not that bottle give me the black bottle" all have confirmed it wasn't water... They have differed in what they say was in it.. but all have said yes it wasn't water... thus illegal. It couldn't been milk for all I care.. it's still an illegal substance PERIOD. Whether it stopped him from being KO is totally irrelevant.. He cheated and drank something besides water. It's really that simple.

But what could he have taken?...what could have been in the black bottle that would have kicked in so fast?

The argument being bandied back and forth here is completely moot. Pryor was winning handily (the scorecards be damned) and putting a beating on Arguello before the bottle issue reared its head. To read the stuff people are posting now one would think Pryor just suddenly started fighting in the 14th round.

I never wrote Pryor was losing. Just that Arguello had an explosive round landing his hardest shots body and head. In-between rounds Pryors trainer asked for the bottle and when his assistant handed him the water bottle he said no...the one that I mixed. Pryor then took a sip from a small black bottle and went out and stopped Alexis. Either way Pryor for some reason that's beyond me could take the crushing punches of Arguello and not fall. It's a fight that's befuddled me since I saw it live....

Ok, Pryor's heart and will got him to the 13th Round...but the special mixed black bottle is what helped him end the fight. :good

Exactly. There should be nothing to mix in a bottle! I'd love to think Aaron was legit, but I have grave doubts.

    Some points:

Pryor has long said he wasn't getting the respect he thought he deserved and he told himself he was prepared to die in the ring that night if he had to. Mentally he told himself he wasn't going to get KOed or go down.

To those that are talking about the 'black bottle' and 'drugs' explain the rematch when Pryor had the same Iron Chin and beat up Arguello even worse than the first fight. He had a different Trainer and team and no black bottle.

This isn't trial by combat, Pryor winning a rematch doesn't clear Panama of giving him an illegal mix in their more closely contested first meeting. All it means is Pryor was the better man on that particualr night, and he was so without controversy on that occassion. There are differet factors to consider in regards to the rematch, you might as well be asking why was Ezzard Charles so easily overwhelmed in the second Maricano fight and not the first.

It doesn't matter what's IN the bottle and how it helped him.. that is a totally irrelevant argument. What does matter is we know the rules state VERY clearly... You can ONLY.. ONLY have water.. thus he cheated and it was illegal whatever he drank. Cut and dry case.

Its sad is what it is...Pryor was puttin on quite a show before the Bottle incident..
But to say thats what won him the fight is a joke!

Whether it helped him win or not doesn't really matter imo... Sucks for Pryor but it's a cut and dry case of cheating.

Not at all. In fact, I was a fan of pryor and had great respect for his abilities in the ring. But again, i firmly believe that he had some help in that first fight, and at least a couple of times some help from the referee in the rematch.

I also believe that he fought arguello a second time because he knew that Arguello left a huge chunk of his skills in the miami ring. He figured that it would be much easier the 2nd time around and he was right.

Make no mistake about it, "hawk" was a great fighter and was fearless, but i can't give him credit because he cheated.
