Erm, Pulev has actually stopped nearly all of his tougher and higher rated foes. A lot of points wins early on his career in fights with few rounds is what brings his ko ratio down.
Thompson is, what I call, a gatekeeper. A more than descent test to see of a fighter is top 10 material. Although I don't consider Pulev a real contender he will do well against Thompson. Kind of a poor man's Sam Peter, this Bulgarian hardhitter with limited technical skills.
This is from fightnews.com regarding Pulev's sparring partners for the Thompson fight: "One of the current sparring partners of The Cobra will be Dimitar Stoimenov, son of Bulgarian heavyweight legend Petar Stoimenov who had two wins over Lennox Lewis in the amateurs. I will do sparring with a couple of southpaw heavyweights. Well use quality sparring partners to make the best preparation, Pulev stated."
a gate keeper would be chisora... NOT thompson.thompson lost one fight early in his career and he lost two to an all time great.it's an insult to call him a gatekeeper. having said that i still pick pulev to stop the tiger late.pulev a rough dude
Something to keep in mind: despite Pulev's distinguished amateur career (where his record vs top level southpaws was hit and miss. He beat Magomed but lost to Cammarelle), he's only fought one lefty in his pro career- Serdar Uysal, in his second fight.
Pulev is nothing but a limited fighter. Lets see what you have to say in a few weeks once Pulev gets exposed.
I think he would go distance and wait TT to gas out, which may not take too long. Speed and stamina would bring win to Pulev in that fight. Definitely he is not going to slug with TT as Price did and therefore will minimise the strangeness of TT style.
winner of this is klitschko's IBF mandatory to save us from TT vs WK III after Klitschko schooled him the first two times, I'm rooting for Pulev to win this.
Cammarelle isn't just some ho-hum southpaw, though. Cammarelle was amateur world elite for years. He could probably make his successful pro debut against Thompson.
He is certainly more than your run-of-the-mill southpaw; Cammarelle had real world-class potential if he'd ever decided to go pro, don't get me wrong. Just wanted to point out that Pulev hadn't faced many skilled southpaws in the amateurs, and the best one he fought (Cammarelle), he couldn't beat. We'll find out soon enough how he handles Thompson; I give Pulev a close but clear edge, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he may not match up well with southpaws.
