I'm not trolling or trying to case trouble here but how can you say Calzaghe "proved his mettle" against Hopkins? Do you HONESTLY believe Calzaghe won that fight? I don't & neither did the majority of ringsiders and press row at the fight.
Calzaghe hardly threw a legitimate scoring punch the whole fight. By the rules of boxing his slaps are ILLEGAL not scoring punches at all. Add to this the knock down in round 1. Then there was the obviously intentional low slap glancing blow.?? No warning from Cortez. Then the ridiculous pseudo ***ual assault as well.. Still no warning. But that's Cortez he is always biased.
t wouldn't be so bad if Joe hadn't bragged about being The Legend Killer ROFL . Hardly that is he.
Also I'd like your opinion on the way he retired. He had the perfect chance to bow out in front of his home fans , who have supported him throughout his care, when Nard offered a rematch over in Wales.
He just seemed to shoot them the finger and ride off into the sunset not to classy in my book. It couldn't be that he knew his beloved 0 would be in dire danger could it. LOL
Would just like to hear your thoughts on this :)

Taylor NEVER beat Hopkins twice. He got two decisions but no way in hell did he win the fights. Look how dejected he looked at the end of the first fight he knew he lost so did DeBella but the anti Hopkins brigade gave them the decision. Tell me when has Hopkins ever got the nod in a close fight??? Never Because he marches to his own drummer in my opinion

BTW Willie Pep won a round without throwing a punch not the fight lol

So many to choose from, but if I had to go with my favourite Calzaghe masterclass it could well be when he travelled to Germany and fought the 45-1 M Veit who was holding an interim world title and whon had become a solid world class fighter.
Calzaghe did some fantastic front foot boxing against a big SMW.
    Truly amazing performance

I preferred his embarrassment of Bernard Hopkins over his humiliation of Roy Jones.

Hopkins lost to Taylor at MW in a fight where he had Taylor hurt and was looking the stronger down the stretch, but Calzaghe beat Hopkins at LHW where Hopkins was strong and not beaten, and beat Hopkins arguably sandwiched between Hopkins best wins of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik, where Calzaghe had Hopkins having to hold late on.
Here is another thing. The official scorecards for Taylors two fights with Hopkins and Calzaghes one fight with Hopkins and overall Calzaghe had more official points higher in one fight that, than Taylor did in two wins over Hopkins

Not on the level of Joe or Bernard, IMO, but Taylor did show some flashes of brilliant at times, and did well in 3 combined contests with Hopkins and Winky.

Well Taylor and Dawson did achieve some level of greatness, or at least moments of greatness along the way. But this is a fallacy of extended analogy. The Hopkins fight alone is not what made Joe great; his greatness just so happened to culminate (IMHO) during that particular fight.

Agreed that Hopkins-Calzaghe could have gone either way. In fact, I scored it for Hopkins myself, 114-113. (I had Hopkins beating Taylor 116-112 in the rematch, and Taylor edging B-Hops 115-113 in the first fight).

In any case, through that point in time (and beyond), Joe Calzaghe is the only man I ever recall seeing outhustle Bernard during the championship rounds.

Perhaps part of the reason I give Calzaghe such high praise for the Hopkins match is largely because I thought so little of him prior to that. But Joe proved things to me in that particular fight that I had never previously seen from him.

^ That's what I say also, I've never seen Hopkins worked like that and having to resort to acting to stall out a fights pace as he was vs. Calzaghe.

It was Calzaghe should have been embarrassed the way he fought slapping like a little girl guide. He hardly threw 10 LEGITIMATE scoring punches the whole fight. Cortez was there to make sure he won too

Strange isn't it... Ive asked the question about Calzaghe turning down a rematch at home in wales to honor his fans with a final win at home. I asked why did he refuse to fight & shoot his faithful fans the finger??? No one has ever offered an explanation Looks like Rumms is ducking the question Calzaghe style too LOL
