Finally some sense.. I personally come to my analysis through studying him.. Believe me when I say, they wouldn't have gone anywhere near him had they believed he was the next GGG.. I mean the only fella stupid enough to do that would be I reckon..:yep
Spot on post, clev got his tactics wrong and that's why people picked kovalev for this fight as everyone knew clev would do his usual bull**** that he's done against other fighters but you can't get away with that against world class punchers.
Personally I rate Stevenson as more dangerous.. Small southpaw and highly explosive. Punches with either hand too.. Like I said though mate not much between them to be honest.. I think Stevenson is the bigger 1 punch hitter too but Kovalev has a higher work rate early on in fights.. :good
Fair play, I haven't seen that much of either to be honest as been living abroad last 12 months so just catch what I can. You fancy Stevenson rather than cloud? I think Hopkins may have ****ed cloud at elite level. Hope the training is going well fella it will be great for the city if you bring that title back.
Thanks mate, I mean it would be easier to prepare for Cloud but I personally want Stevenson after what he did to Dawson.. He's the no.1 fighter in the world for me right now after what he done.. I was at the cloud Hopkins fight and was in total shock the way Cloud just handed over the title.. I mean the last few rounds he knew he'd lost the fight and just stood there doing nothing, if I was world champ and lost 9 out of the first 10 rounds then I'd be swinging for the lights but that's just me.. It would be a dream come true to hear "AND THE NEW" :good
I watched that fight myself and to be honest I thought he just looked intimidated at times, not physically but mentally if you get my meaning. To be fair you've had a few setbacks with the cleverly fight and the first chilemba fight that you got stick for but you're there now so hopefully you'll grab it with both hands like barker did at the weekend-I was proper buzzing for that lad. You heard anything on what price is doing? I was at his last fight felt gutted for the lad but hope he learns the lessons he needs to and comes back from it.
He'll come back just gonna need a bit of time, he's come to terms with it now. Styles make fights and Thompson is almost impossible to prepare for, Barker fight was amazing and it's gonna be some journey he has for the next 18 months.. The Chilemba first fight was a lesson for me, I was exhausted after 7 rounds, I don't remember anything from the fight, I'm so lucky I didn't wake up in hospital cos after 7, I had nothing in the tank I just bit down on the gum shield and stuck with it. I done so much in camp and almost paid the price for completely overdoing it. Second fight wasn't easy but compared to the first fight was a walk in the park.. I knew I was better than him at everything and was just happy to show that in the rematch.. Now I'm the final I'm determined not to let it slip away..
Fair play, like I say I'll be cheering you on even from dubai where I'm heading for another 12 months on Sunday. Good luck mate! However, even if you do win you'll still be getting **** off me for being a blue!
stevenson hits hard yeah but hes not got the same boxing ability as kovalev. it seemed to me you were talking up stevenson and trying to pick out every flaw you could for kovalev, saying how he struggled with boone etc ignoring the fact that he knocked him out in the rematch and also ignoring the fact that stevenson was knocked out clean by boone (granted, came back and KO'd him aswell). the way you were talking just seemed bitter that kovalev was getting all this praise. you're entitled to your opinion but from other pro boxers reactions on twitter i would say you are in the minority with your assessment of how good kovalev is. and also your tweet does just say stevenson is p4p it doesnt say p4p puncher? so i was only quoting what you said yourself
Good luck with the title fight when you get it Tony, are you going to be taking a keep busy fight whilst waiting for the big one? I get the feeling other fighters are still doubting Kovalev's world class hitting power despite the last few fights that have had consistent results. If the Kovalev camp contacted you and said we are prepared to come to Liverpool or London to defend against you within the next 4 months would you take the fight? I can understand why you taking the WBC\Ring route instead. If you won the title abroad, would you be prepared to defend against Nathan Cleverly further down the line? Was you pleased with the cracking victories on the under card where Stephen Smith and Enzo Mac won the titles? :good
I agree mostly with what your saying to be honest, Stevenson is a puncher with quick feet, all I was trying to point out was that Kovalev is nowhere near on the same technical level as GGG as some where suggesting, I rate him more now but if you break him down, look at his footwork and his connection rate on punches, he's falling over himself and NC just stood there and showed no lateral movement what so ever.. I have studied both, Stevenson has far better footwork where I'd say Kovalev has a little more variety, Stevenson is the bigger 1 punch hitter IMO.. Kovalev the greater output, especially early on.. I've seen both of them fight Boone, I thought Boone deserved the first fight with Kovalev but he destroyed him in the return.. Like I said I feel he's highly dangerous but not on the same level as GGG, If he was on that level you better believe they wouldn't of got him in as a voluntary with no rematch clause in place:-( I feel Stevenson is slightly more dangerous but I feel with the right tactics in place they can both be out boxed.. Just my opinion though. His next move will be interesting, my gut feeling is he'll head towards Shumenov as that's an easy fight to make.. I think you'll also hear Hopkins calling him out too, he reminds me very much of Kelly Pavlik.. Very heavy handed but comes in straight lines and doesn't like lateral movement.. Time will tell..:good
I'm not taking a keep busy fight mate, been very active the last 16 months with 5 title fights, body just needed to fully recover. Back to back camps bring injuries.. I don't doubt his power, that is clear to see mate, what I do doubt is his durability and his endurance down the stretch.. It's simple, you stand toe to toe with him in the first 6 then you might as well not turn up, I reckon a fighter who can stick to a stringent game plan has a good chance against him. I'll fight anyone, I've worked hard to become mandatory for the WBC and people have to remember I targeted the WBC cos the best fighter in the world had that title at the time (Chad Dawson) , I just wanted to face the best fighter at my weight.. Everyone seen what happened to him against Stevenson so for me that makes Stevenson no.1 now.. I beat Stevenson then you better believe ill do a unification with Kovalev.. I asked and asked and asked for a rematch and was told no.. Vincent Cleverly is deluded if he thinks I turned down a rematch, he obviously had them sunglasses on when he was told.. Everyone has seen these so called emails with offers on, I have a simple answer, we're is my email with the offer of a rematch? The answer is, there isn't one cos I've never been offered one.. That's the truth and if anyone says any different there lying mate.. I'll become champion then ill sit with my team and we'll decide what's best for us.. I was made up for both Enzo and Swifty.. It was redemption for both of them.. There both really good fighters who have just been unlucky lately.. Hopefully now they'll be given the opportunity to be more active and crack on and win more titles cos there deffo capable of more.. :good
Sometimes things can be misinterpreted on Twitter with The 140 characters limit. In saying that I thought Bellew was running Kovalev down and making it sound like he was chosen by Team Clev because he wasn't all that. I disagree with that assessment as I think Kovalev is a seriously dangerous opponent who manages the distance well and is able to close off the ring and walk his opponent down. It's alright saying the strategy is to get through the first 6 rounds and then take him down in the home stretch. As Mike Tyson said 'everybody has a game plan until they get punched in the head'. Listening to Cleverly talk about how hard and hurtful the punches to the gloves, arms and shoulders were says it all for me. By the middle of the 1st round Cleverly was already fearful. I don't doubt Kovalev could be beaten by a slickster but they also would be hit very hard. From what I've seen Kovalev is the top man man at LHW. Only Hopkins could spoil the party and he's getting very old, maybe Dawson if he could regroup. Kovalev is better then Adonis.
yeah but tone your analysis was way way off the mark. You seem to assume that your opinion has more merit because you've made the effort to study him...plenty of other people did and their conclusions turned out to be much more accurate than your own. Kovalev just walked through him as most people who'd watched him fight more than a dozen times were predicting. I know you were fishing to a degree but you did seem to be reading far too much into the first Darnell Boone fight...a fight that incidentally noone else could seem to get any footage of, 'still interested if you could provide a link for that fight. And all this guff about Cleverly being stupid for trading with a puncher is another red herring..Nathan barely threw a shot, the lad simply got steamrolled by a much better opponent...no gameplan in the world was going to change that. anyway, 'personally think you ridiculing people comparing him to GGG is going to come back to haunt you...the lad is a quality operator a blind man on a galloping horse can see that. Good luck against Stevenson anyway, 'think he is much more the one dimensional banger that you painted Kovalev as :good
