Shavers threw his shots straighter perhaps with more speed. From a standpoint of pure power George was the most powerful I ever saw and the most powerful I could imagine.

I agree that Foreman would have crushed Liston. Now, what's this about 208 Lbs? Liston weighed less and he weighed more, doesn't matter... he's getting beat by Foreman.

i agree, i can´t find any proof to say that shavers did hit harder.. the words are words.. ali faced a much weaker, and older version of ali in 1977, ron lyle said that shavers did hit him harder however he took the shots from shavers and he won by ko, he could not take the attack of foreman. ia m pretty sure that old foreman 91 who faced evander who weighed 257 pounds did hit harder than any version of shavers shot for shot, plus foreman was much stronger, just a ****** could question the power of george foreman,

Chuvalo's head was certainly whiplashed back impressively by those Foreman jabs as the Canadian retreated into his own corner. Shavers was capable of a good jab, having an 80 inch reach, but rarely made use of it [Henry Clark I being a notable exception]. And there's clear footage of Foreman denting the heavy bag with his shots. But if Ali says on camera [on yotube] that Shavers hit him hardest, and if Lyle agrees with Ali on camera [on youtube] specifically that Earnie hit harder than George, if Jimmy Young [who was only ever floored by Shavers, in both their bouts] agrees with them, and if Caldwell and Norton corroborate this, then who am I to disagree?:conf

Wepner has said on camera [on youtube] that an ancient Liston hit him harder than an embryonic Foreman, and Sonny did deck Chuck with a body shot [which actually knocked the Bleeder backwards with the force behind it. Wepner wasn't the hardest guy to find, so one could easily imagine he had proper context for comparing Liston's power with George's before getting stopped by Foreman on cuts in the third. [A Foreman-Wepner rematch might have been a good "getting back on the horse" selection for George in 1975 ASAP after Chuck's challenge of Ali in March.]

If you can't call Morrison "china chinned", who can you call? In reality, he just didn't protect his chin very well, guys could find him on the button and send him to the cavas without even trying. Its like his chin had a magnet in it.

But against Old Foreman, Morrison didn't force anything and just comfortably outboxed him to a boring decision. Most discplined fight of his life and Foreman was too slow to catch him. I'm sure if he planted his feet in front of Big George like Moorer and recklessly threw combinations, he would have got laid out just the same.

As far as punching power goes, I found it always pointless to argue degrees.

Baer, Shavers, Satterfield, Moore, Liston, Maricano, Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, Wlad...etc. These guys hit you with their best shot, you are going to sleep, and that's just the way it is.

I can see why Shavers has his reputation though. He seemed to put incredible amount of power into every right hand he threw. Can see him just clubbing away, not even hitting guys good, just catching them in thethe shoulder or back, and them coming away wincing in pain or buckling from it. His punches just looked so painful.

Well, planting his feet wasn't an option for Tommy, because George just casually kept shoving him back illegally with those forearms. Morrison didn't use enough steroids in training for this one.

Foreman's cheating was finally turned against him as a tactic, when Tommy used George's own effort to effectively retreat back then run counterclockwise. Ali also cheated by yanking down on Foreman's neck, draining George to the point he could be knocked out [the specific reason for Muhammad's win cited by Archie Moore years later].

Like referee Dempsey said to the Larruper after awarding the 20 round decision to Uzcudun, "He did a better job of fouling than you, Max!" Well, steroid Tommy was a better cheat than manhandling George when they squared off. [Like Governor Jesse Ventura told a graduating class shortly after taking office, "Win if you can, lose if you must, but ALWAYS cheat!"]

Everyone cheats, the point being that Morrison avoided getting his clock cleaned. Hardly argument fodder in favor of Morrison's chin or Foreman's punching power. Neither got tested here.

It is over rated by a hairs breadth.

He was one of the hardest hitters that there has been in any era, just not IMHO the hardest.

Here are all of the weights for his fights.

    http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=9031&cat=boxer

Show me all of those "tons of prime fights" (your words) where he weighed 208. Then we'll let our fellow posters decide which of us is "ignorant":

Foreman's punching power during his comeback was not as good as during his prime years. Comeback George was too slow; his lack of snap negated a lot of his punching power. And I'm sure the extra lard he was carrying didn't help things.
