He should try to land a big $ fight against Cotto, Canelo or Mayweather if they can agree on a weight, then retire. He had a great run and has nothing left to prove.

Yes he is getting old. Still some good fights for him out there and still a force.

The wheels are coming off. He needs to cash out or he's gonna get stopped.

I'd love for him to come back and prove everyone wrong but I just can't see it unfortunately

In sayin that if his body can hold up and he comes in injury free he may look a lot better, as a pretty mobile fighter he relies a lot on movement and with a messed up knee he's bound to look like ****

If he retired now nobody could knock him. Has had a great run. He deserves one more big money fight and just hope he can cash out without being beaten up

Really big fan of his but I think the Chavez fight may have been his last great performance. I think he could have given Golovkin a really good go back in his day but unfortunetly he had to spend a lot of his prime out of the spot light due to promotional issues.

It isn't just because he relies on reflexes, it is because he is years old nearly. Not everybody is Hopkins.

    :good
He's a guy that rose to prominence on speed of hand and foot
and excellent reflexes and eyes. Nothing to fall back on but
heart. His time is pretty much up.

Well, he is getting older, was coming off of surgery, and allegedly re-injured himself during the fight. Murray was putting hands on Martinez. Martinez was likely rusty as well.

Martinez was always slightly over rated in my opinion. Dzinziruk hadn't beaten anyone of note, and in hindsight wasn't even that good, along with being a 154 pounder and not a 160 pounder. Paul Williams was a top welterweight, and good 154 pounder. He wasn't a middleweight period. Yet he gave Martinez the fight of his life in their first match. Pavlik was never the same after Hopkins made him his cabin boy. I don't think Martinez would have beaten the Pavlik that KO'd Jermain Taylor. Also note that Martinez' real middleweight opposition since Pavlik left a whole lot to be desired. Barker? Mediocre, didn't beat a name guy until last weekend when he got the nod over Geale. Macklin, mediocre fighter. Chavez Jr., mediocre fighter who came in as a cruiserweight. Murray, I thought Murray actually beat Martinez, but I am not sure how good Murray is, as he hasn't really beaten anyone of note either. Martinez has had some of the softest middleweight title defenses in memory. People used to dog Hopkins over his middleweight opposition, but Hopkins middleweight opposition, Allen, Eastman, Echols, Johnson, Trinidad, etc. make Martinez middleweight opposition look like one big steaming pile of crap.

While only fighting elite fighters a couple times, he fought a consistent lineup of top 10 fighters for years after he won the crown and had several back to back wars. He has got to only have a couple fights left in him at most. Injuries, age, punishment... not good when in combination.

He's 40 and has been in enough wars already. The Chavez Jr. fight was brutal and the first Williams fight was beyond brutal. Martinez should just look to get one big payday and retire, he has nothing left to prove at this age.

He can box and has skills to carry him when needed as he already proven. Seeing how he clearly has stamina issues sometimes, he adapts and relies on ability and skills.
