Different kinds of power. Foreman had very heavyhands. Meaning that he could move his opponent with glancing blows. George Foreman was the hardest puncher in heavyweight history besides Sonny Liston. Liston had just as heavy hands but more snap, more speed.
Good point about the different versions of Ali that Foreman and Shavers fought. A '74 Foreman would have stopped a '77 incarnation of Ali,and the Zaire 1974 Muhammad would have had a lot easier time in dealing with Shavers than in their real fight.
i agree with anubis in that foreman combined power with great strenght. as far as sheer ko power i would go with baer. fleischer thought dempsey had the most destructive punch . oft hand id say baer, dempsey, louis had the most power but foreman is not overrated.
sonny liston should not be even mentioned with foreman in the same league in the hitting power department
2 of your heros.. jack dempsey and joe louis said in 1974 (foreman vs norton fight) that foreman was the hardest puncher and th e most powerful boxer that they saw ever... and these 2 guys are in the ultimate top of the punchers... so tell me who you would put obove foreman..
Still waiting for that list of "tons of fights" where Liston weighed 208. If you're going to come on here and call others "ignorant" then it's best to make sure you got your own bases covered, right?
Do you have a source for those quotes? Im not saying they didnt say it I just never read that before. Was it during the broadcast?
you said before that liston never fought at 208 pounds during his prime.. it is false.. he did.. period.
Come on h_h,....you're a good poster,...you say some great things, then you come up with something like this..
Which fight exactly? Here are ALL the weights he fought at during his pro career: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=9031&cat=boxer Not once does the number "208" come up. Let alone the "tons of times" you stated. If he fought at 208 tons of times then surely you can name at least ONE fight in which he did, right? Why not just look at it then admit you were wrong?
As I get older things that I once believed or thought have been, if not disproven, have been come at least debatable. That said, the sun rises in east, sets in the west and George Foreman could swat. Don't take my word for it, take the word of alltime tough guys like Joe Frazier, George Chuvalo who opined that taking a shot from George was like a bus collision.
