2012 Olympic MW gold medallist Ryoto Murata of Japan made his pro debut taking on reigning OPBF MW Champion Akio Shibata (21-7) and former JMW Japanese Champion stopping him in the 2nd round. Another good MW prospect on the rise and if they keep moving him this fast we could see him become a contender within a year.

Murata in white and is with Top Rank

I love how he made his pro debut against a high ranked fighter. Hopefully his next two fights will continue that way because when he starts his US debut its probably going to be cans for awhile.

I wonder how he would fair against Charlie Ota?

The MW division is stacking up the talent. The kid needs more head movement if he plans on making some real noise. Good crisp punches though

Excellent debut. He's got some refining to do, but I can't complain whatsoever about that kind of fight as a pro debut.

Murata's got championship-caliber talent and the potential to make a fortune in the sport. Can't wait to see how he develops from here.

He should stay active, 2-3 more times this year would be perfect... at least get those fights out of the way so you can fight overseas

I think japanese boxing federation has some rules to force his olympians to face ranked fighters on his debut. They should fight four times in Japan before travelling to fight outside the country.

He's required to have his first three fights in Japan, but I think once he comes to the US, Top Rank will match him carefully in order to build up his name without jeopardizing him. I can only hope they won't go as slow as they did/are with Korobov.

I remember this guy from the Olympics, I was thinking he was good, with a more professional style than the rest of the amateurs I saw.

Him, Khytrov and the Brazilian Falco all looked individually good enough to do big things at Middleweight. it looks like we're going to see them all in the mix eventually..

Very solid debut. Improvements can be made to his style, but I think even now he would make an exciting addition to the top of the MW division.
