I have been following boxing since the 1980's. I can only recall a couple supposed Mega fights with the predictions from real experts being so one sided.

There were many mega fights with clear favorites like Leonard vs. Hagler, Hopkins vs. De La Hoya, Lewis vs. Tyson etc. These fights even though there were clear favorites you could find some experts predicting the underdog.

The two mega fights that come to mind where few experts were predicting the underdog were Hopkins vs. Trinidad and Tyson vs. Holyfield. This is good for Canelo backers as they can say predictions mean little. The problem with the Hopkins prediction was that he was severely underrated at that time. Hopkins was still a relatively unknown and people did not understand how great a technician he was. As far as Holyfield it was his style and chin were just made for Tyson and few people realized it.

I have seen Roach, Nacho, Mosley, JMM, Nazim Richardson, Bradley, Toney and many more have been confident that Mayweather will win.

So if you back Canelo what are the experts of today missing because clearly almost none of them are giving Canelo a chance? What is it that the experts don't see that you see?

  2. Lets watch Canelos live workout at 4pm today on Showtime.com and see.

What they're missing is the fact that Canelo Alvarez is a young talented fighters with upside who can both box and brawl.

When is the last time Mayweather faced such an opponent?

An opponent who had'nt seen his better days and was'nt on the downside of their careers?
An opponent who was'nt naturally smaller than he is?

Lastly an most important, an opponent of the traits I mentioned and who wanted it?
An opponent with heart, willing to walk through the speed to land his?

Thats what I think the experts are missing.
Canelo is no Victor Ortiz. Imo Canelo has 100 times more heart than Ortiz.
The Mexican fighter born and breed in Mexico 99.9% of the time is willing to walk through whatever and I think thats the type of effort Canelo will exhert against Mayweather.
Thats what will give him the chance others welters and junior middles could not vs Mayweather.

And? All of the experts were convinced Sonny Liston was going to destroy Cassius Clay. Mayweather has been dominant for so long of course hes going to be the landslide majority pick, while Canelo is young and comparatively unproven. However, all that doesn't really matter anymore, all that matters is the night of the 14th. Guys like Ortiz, Guerrero, etc were really no hopers - Mayweather is going to have a completely different kind of opponent in front of him come September 14th.

The "experts" are in love with a guy who dominated fights he was supposed to dominate. Shot fighters (DLH, mosley, Cotto), dumb/simple fighters (ortiz, gurerrero), or midgets (marquez, hatton).
Canelo is none of those things.

For me i look at floyd's underwhelming punch stat numbers against cotto...they were VERY pedestrian. Canelo is much slicker than cotto (just ask trout) and has a better offense and more power ( just ask trout).

I really do like canelo. 36 is thirty-f_cking-six no matter how you cut it.

God you talk some rubbish lol.. floyds suspect chin... ?? the guys never been down in 44 fights (ok i know the judah fight but the ref didnt call it.. and he wasn't hurt) Who, of any note has canelo ko'd to earn the 'punchers chance due to his power)???

GUerrero was a joke of a fight but the reality is he was mandatory and lets not pretend people were saying it's a fair fight for floyd to take after what guerrero did to berto..

Well, Guerrero actually is a bum. His win on Mayweather's record is relatively meaningless.

However, Canelo is not a bum.

If Mayweather beats him, especially in convicing fashion, it's a very good win, among his best.

The only sour taste is how the weight clause will work itself out.

@divac, for crying out loud if he had this heart you speak of he would have fought trout in trenches and not retreat like a coward. Canelo made trout look like a killer with all the back peddling canelo was doing. I can't wait to see canelo's workout and the guy he works with on the mitts is slow as a damn turtle.

Why didn't Alvarez walk through whatever Trout had instead of backing up?:think
He didn't even try to fight on the inside..

Alvarez TRIES to fight just like the guys you mexicans boo and hiss..:hi:

Just to put things in perspective. Not too many people gave Gonzalez a chance against Mares.
