    It's official! :banana

Part of an HBO triple-header with Martirosyan vs. Andrade plus the non-title return of former champ (lost his belt on the scales) Mikey Garcia.

Darchinyan is actually higher ranked than Donaire in every org at present - WBC #1, WBO #2, WBA #7 and IBF #6. Donaire isn't top 15 in any of them.

It's easy to see how & why this got made. Donaire wants to catapult himself back into the world title picture and the easiest way to do so, it seems to him, is to finally grant the long-sought rematch to someone he KTFO six years ago (to whom all his success is owed). High reward for low risk...or is it? :think

Darchinyan looked pretty shot and slow to pull trigger for a period of a year or so (Mbamba, Moreno, Yamanaka) but experienced a bit of a resurgence since with an upset over unbeaten prospect Luis Del Valle and then a destruction of hard-nosed Mexican brawler Javier Gallo.

Donaire, meanwhile, is the one coming off a loss and despite his career having mostly been on more of an incline than Darchinyan's from their 2007 meeting he began to look more beatable at super bantamweight, starting with a surprisingly competitive struggle with WV2 and continuing with forgettable offensive performances in the Mathebula and Nishioka defenses.

Nothing should catapult Donaire back into the title scene quicker than a win over a guy he starched years ago who's looked more and more out of place since then as he's moved up in weight.

I'd be very surprised if Donaire didn't win this. Saying he struggled vs Nishioka and Mathebula is stretching it a bit, he beat both pretty easily and was fighter of the year for most people in 2012. He is a first and foremost a counter puncher so he's not always going to look great offensively against other top guys in his division. He got beaten by one of the most skilled guys in the game last time out, Vic shouldn't present the same problems as Rigo did. My first thought is that it is pretty high reward, pretty low risk.

I dont care if Darchinyan is rated higher.

    This is a **** fight, with a capital S.

Either its a complete mismatch or Donaire has lost it. Darchinyan is wayyy past his best

    So pointless

If Garcia fights someone good should still be a decent card though

That's how Donaire got FOTY by beating guys he was supposed to beat. He was heavily favored in all his matches yet idiots said he deserved FOTY. Idiots will make him P4P when he beats Vic again.

I do wish Darchinyan can some how pull it off, but he came up short in 118lbs losing 4 times, then the only loss outside of 118 was vs Donaire...So thats why Donaire made it his bounce back fight
