Canelos sparring partner was saying that his arms were getting tight and he couldn't throw it like he wanted to. (All Access ep.2) Oscar probably advised him to do this because Oscar did this in the fight and it was effective when he did it. I see Canelo jabbing the **** out of his arm. And when hes on the rope, he unleashes powerful combinations on the arm and if he sees openings. I don't think this is going to win the fight, but I can see it be somewhat effective, especially if Canelo has other tricks up his sleeve. What do you guys think of this tactic?
If Canelo has any success with any tactic that hurts Floyd, Floyd will adapt and not let him do it any more. Its an intriguing fight, and there is a chance of an upset, but I see Floyd simply outsmarting a very smart fighter. I would advise Canelo to not head hunt and hit anything he can .... arms, shoulders, chest.... whatever is there to be hit.
All of Floyd's opponents have ended up punching his arms as an unintended consequence, because they couldn't get near his face. If this is the magic masterplan for Canelo than his chances aren't looking good.
I mean i don't believe the part about the fractured ribs or dislocated shoulders and they have no sparring partners left, but I do believe that the tactic of hitting Floyd's shoulder will be used in the fight! It worked well with Oscar.
There is a difference between head hunting and hitting an arm or shoulder.. and intended to hit the arm or shoulder... It isn't so much of a glancing blow and the way Canelo pushes his punches it should do more damage. I've said since long before this fight was made that if Canelo fought Mayweather he'd need to attack his arms and shoulders early..
Uh oh... That 'attack his arms and shoulders talk again'.....the last time I heard that......was before the Arturo Gatti massacre.
For about 2 rounds while Floyd got used to Oscar, and go and rewatch, Oscar landed virtually nothing of note during those (presumably) eye catching flurries. Mayweather dominated him clearly. Canelo couldn't stop Matthew Hatton, so hardly a dynamite puncher, seems to gas in fights, so won't outwork Floyd, and if it comes down to skills and experience, its a mismatch, which is how I see it. Canelos been thrown in with Floyd now, as he's headed to 160, and he's cashing in while they're still able to get to roughly the same weight
If you were Canelo? What do you do? Try to head hunt like everyone else? Try to attack the body, like everyone else? The fact of the matter is Canelo's options are kinda limited.. as he is NOT beating him in a boxing match... and both fighters like to box.. so it will be a boxing match. I'm not saying it will win him the fight, I am saying.. it is his best bet.
Castillo has great success and it was in large part to Floyd injuring his shoulder, I'm not sure if he was already hurt going in or Castillo hurt him in the fight. Regardless aiming jabs and right hands to the lead shoulder when Floyd is in the shell will pay dividends later on in the fight.
