Muhammed Ali admitted Rocky Marciano would have beaten him

Ali is just being reverential to the greats.

If you are in the sport and they are your idols when growing up, you aren't going to diss them.

Tyson has a similar reverence for such historical figures. Jem Mace, go figure.

 

While Marciano got floored by an ancient 40 something year old light heavy Archie Moore and and a 38 year old Walcott who looked 50.

The 60's Ali would have beaten Rocky. The 70's Ali was going to get beaten hard on the ropes (he tried the rope-a-dope numerous times, not only against Foreman) and lose a decision. If Ali even tried the rope-a-dope, he would get beaten horribly, scarier than Frazier. Rocky was an anywhere hitter, and wherever he landed, it hurt.

 

He was just being realistic.
Ali was really nothing special, his young year's fastness was due to fighting at a cruiserweight weight, and quickly disappeared as he started putting on weight; his power have never been anything special, as his mediocre ko ratio against blown up cruisers suggests; he mainly throw arm punches, on the tips of his feets and often off balance, putting nothing behind them: in fact, no one trainer would ever suggest to throw punches like he did.
And even his workrate was low, he fought in bursts, losing a lot of rounds but being given the decisions because many of his opponents were as inactive as he was, of because of pure robberies.
Ali was nothing special, just, as he himself continuely said, "if i keep on saying i'm the best, peoples will believe in it".

you know I don't pretend joe calzaghe is an ATG. He is a HOF no doubt and pretty damn good, but NEVER did anything to prove he was great other than stick around a long time and have an Olympian engine.

What a joke! Rocky in his prime could not touch Ali let alone land a solid punch. Even Rocky realized that as did Tyson who admitted numerous times that he was no match for Ali's speed......

Known fact: Rocky told Ali after they filmed the footage together that he was so impressed with his skills that he would "make sure" that the makers did the right thing and make him the victor.

Yes, he was. He admitted himself that he wasn't a big puncher in his era.
In this era Ali would be a small, feather fisted HW.

When "Big" George lost to Ali he was the size of - at best - an average HW today. The KO was due to fatigue, not concussive punches by Ali. Foreman has also stated that he did not feel right on that day.
