People underestimate how much it means to stay in fighting shape in between fights. He had no ring rust that was apparent anyway and I don't think some fights in between would made him into a different fighter.

Absolutely you're right, but you also need to understand boxing to know that this guy does'nt take on all-comers and cherry picks with the best of history's cherrypickers.
Let that be understood as well.

That's when I became a Money fan it was the way he took Gatti apart no wasted motion he was not touched and gave a body and head attack that was vicious.

i thought that for a while until i learnt about floyd and arums relationships and arums history protecting fighters

i honestly think floyd has fought the best challangers he could find at the time. i might substitute one or two fighters but thats about it. i think floyd sometimes makes it look to easy so they come to the conclusion he is ducking other fighters who would legitimately beat him when in reality there is no real argument for it

margarito is easily the best example i can find of this - apparently ducked by floyd. margarito would kill him they say, his output and pressure would be to much for floyd!. yet they dump on the canelo fight saying canelo is a slow plodding fighter "the kind floyd preys on" they say... margarito was getting thoroughly outboxed by cotto in the first fight and eventully the pressure became to much for cotto and he lost the fight late by tko (wont even mention handwrap issue because there are no FACTS) but for argument sake lets assume he never used them for the cotto fight and it was a legitimate tko victory

cotto gets tko'd and you think his style matches up well against a guy like margarito ? protip IT DOES NOT. inside fighter vs a much bigger pressure fighting opponent who has a better chin then you? on paper its a miracle cotto made it as far as he did but he boxed incredibly well utalising his movement to the best of his ability

floyd would have a field day with margarito it would be the baldomir fight all over again yet people seem to think margarito would somehow get to floyd? maybe if floyd had

    stamina issues
    weak chin
    weak body
    **** footwork
    really **** reach

but floyd possesses none of those, honestly i CANNOT FATHOM how anyone could legitimately say margarito would have any chance against floyd.

    end rant

This. The body/head double straight right thing just blew my f*cking mind when I first saw it. Not many fighters can throw two or three times the same power punch and make them meaningful. Floyd was one of those few, as can be seen against Gatti, and right before the Corrales and Ndou knockouts. The last guy I'd seen throwing combinations like these was Roy Jones.

Also, people forget that Mayweather would KTFO most of his opponents in the lower weight classes. He once had a 27-0 (20 KO) record (75% KO ratio) with KO wins over Hernàndez, Manfredy and Corrales.

^^Bradley isn't even remotely close to Floyd. You're forgetting about defense, which is a major part of any boxer's repertoire. FLoyd's defense is in another stratosphere compared to Timmy; you think Ruslan would've hit FLoyd as flush as he did all night with Bradley??

They're both African American fighters, but that's essentially the only thing they have in common.

^ this.. defense is a big part of why floyds 36 years old and still going undefeated showing alot less decline compared to any fighter at his age

So many options. 98-01, his whole reign at 130 is just amazing.

I agree with this. At 130, Mayweather was an animal. Plus, his hands were stronger and less prone to injury during this time.

PBF 1996-2000 doesn't even get included among the options? :-(

His form carried into the pro game from the Olympics was pretty tight, especially offensively (compared to later).

Capture & 5 defenses of the green belt...master classes over Pep, Hernandez, Gerena, Juuko and stopping a game Augustus?

If you make a poll you best throw green Floyd a bone.

Listen, Floyd retired when both Margarito and Paul Williams had hit their stride and were both calling him out.
He ****ing retired instead of fighting these fighters who many thougth would trouble if not beat Mayweather.

It does'nt matter what transpired to Margarito and Williams after.
At the time, they were real threats and Floyd did'nt want any of it.

To say Floyd would have dont this and that to Margarito is all bogus.
Mayweather simply did'nt have the balls to climb the ring with him.

You *****s say this same **** about what Mayweather would have done to Pacquiao. You take a Marquez victory over Pacquiao and call it a Mayweather victory. :nut
Well its not. Mayweather simply skipped those fighters as he did'nt have balls to climb a ring with fighters who at the time were at the very top of their games. End of!!!
