Now that we know that Floyd is 100% making 43 Mil for the canelo fight (source forbes) do you think Manny Pacquiao was smart or stupid for turning down Floyds deal?

If you don't remember floyd called manny pacquiao personally and offered him a 40 mil garauntee with 20 Mil upfront and the remaining 20 would come later. I honestly forget how manny responded but I think he told floyd 50-50 and then just passed hte phone to micheal koncz. Someone can correct me if thats wrong anyways...

Not again, I think it wasnt smart of him to refuse the offer. But I believe they could have worked something out, at least sit them at the negotiating table together. Take bob and top rank out of the equation and I believe the fight would have been made years ago.

Of course it was smart to turn that down. Not getting a share of the PPV revenue which was expected to be the largest in the history of the sport is freaking stupid.

No, it was a flat $40 million offer from Mayweather to Pacquiao.

It's $40 million with NO PPV share which is ridiculous. Mayweather was expected to earn nearly $100 million from that fight and and Pacquiao should've been near that (just a tad lower to get the fight to happen) as they were both two top boxers during that time. To offer Pacquiao a measly $40M and Mayweather making $100M is a joke.

Read it in context. It's relative. 100M vs 40M for two top fighters at that time with similar draws. It's measly.

How anyone believes a single word Mayweather says amazes me.
Sure he may have said that BUT if Manny had immediately accepted Floyd would have made more demands. Mayweather was scared shitless to face Paquaio or Margarrito at that time

He shouldn't have accepted a $40MM flat fee, but he shouldn't have hung up on Mayweather either. His biggest mistake was not accepting the drug testing during the first round of negotiations.

Anyway, both guys came out pretty well regardless. Mayweather is still on top of the sport and is making a ton of money. Pacquiao has made a ton of money and continues to do so despite a fall from the peak of the mountain. Most importantly, neither guy has to deal with losing to the other. That would be a bitter pill for either to swallow. So both fighters actually won, it's the fans who lost.

To accept a $40m flat offer in that situation is to be the dumbest business person a man can be. It wasnt "smart" for Manny to turn it down; it was simply the only option. If Manny offered Floyd $40m flat, Floyd would have done the same thing. No one is that dumb.

Do you have any idea how many PPV's that would take:patsch

and for the record it was a stupid move. Losing to FLoyd would have answered some questions but would not have harmed his reputation that much and would have put a nice chunk of change in the bank..

I didn't make that figure up. It's cited everywhere on the net. That's the figure that Mayweather and his team requested. So you are essentially admitting that it's unrealistic and Floyd never wanted to see Manny in the ring. :rofl

Here's one of many articles claiming this:
