As we see how mannys career has gone since yes it was a bad move... But 40m flat no ppv is a pretty stingy deal... But again if he wanted something better he could have had 5050 split with his choice of gloves and ring size. All he had todo was agree to testing

I would have to say it was a "dumb" move, since he could've made $40 million there, and if he won, perhaps given a rematch and made at least the same or more (with PPV included that time), then went on to face Marquez again (or a showcase bout), then retired if he chose. If he lost to Mayweather, he would have made $40 million and still had the Marquez option, which was the next best option for him. Sometimes, you have to know when to fold 'em.

Although, I think if he had accepted the $40 million there would have probably been some other little detail regarding the testing, which would have been a hinderance. And I think Bob Arum would've found a way to make that an issue or something else. That's BEFORE he got laid out by JMM though. At this point, I'd be surprised if he gets another chance at that fight.

It was a complete Joke by Floyd, and it showed the world exactly what his real intentions were on making the fight.

For three years, Floyd had been shouting "take the test!"

He even walked around in t shirts that had it printed on the front.


Then in 2012, Manny gave in.

He agreed to be tested at any point up unitl the day of the fight, and agreed the smaller percentage.


You would have assumed that Floyd would have been happy by this. He'd finally been given what he'd originally wanted.

But no.

Floyd then offered Manny a guaranteed $40m, but wanted to claim what would have been left over from the entire PPV money.


Floyd's fight with Oscar generated $130m in PPV revenue in 2007.


Floyd's fight with Manny would have smashed that, because the PPV price would have been significantly higher, and there probably would have been more interest.

It was reported that the fight had realistic expectations of grossing between $200m-$300m.

So it was a complete joke of an offer by Floyd.


People always say "Manny was stupid, because he couldn't earn anywhere near that amount."

Although that's true, he was NEVER going to accept those ridiculous terms, and watch Floyd make THREE times or more, the money that he'd been paid.


It was done in my opinion, for two reasons.


1. To make it look as though Floyd had tried to make the fight.


2. To actually avoid from having to take the fight.


Nobody in Manny's position would have agreed to that.


That should be 100% confirmation that Floyd never wanted the fight in the first place.


He'd gotten what he'd wanted, he could have had the bigger share, but it wasn't enough.

Nothing would ever have been good enough for Floyd.

You're wrong about this. Floyd offered 40m for Pac to split with Top Rank, as he's under contract. It's usually said Arum's minimum is 27%. That means Pac's share is 29m, like a 10% raise over his normal purse. That's not just a bad deal, it's insulting, and probably meant as such

 

Floyd is only making $40M fighting Canelo, the amount he offered Pacquiao.

The fact that Pacquiao is an easier fight.

Smart move by Pacquiao.

3rd option doens't make sense because both are on record saying that yes 40 mil was offered. Manny admitted it so did Floyd

 

if pac had accepted the 40mil., floyd would have added another crazy demand like pac has to leave top rank and sign with TMT.
