    Arguello, Lopez, or Marquez's?

Against their own era and vs some of the more greater fighters in their divisions?

Unsure what you mean by style. If you ask who was greater historically, it is Arguello. If you ask who did the most with the least physical attributes, it is Marquez. Most technically correct would be Lopez.

I guess my answer would be Marquez, unless you're asking who was flat-out best, then it'd be Arguello. Both Arguello and Lopez usually had the advantage physically against their opponent though. Marquez' edge was mental more than anything -- focus and determination.

    Nice post.

How do you give Marquez that edge though?

Just wondering how you came to that conclusion.

Well, Arguello was nearly always bigger and hit harder than his opponents. Lopez was big for his weightclass, fast and strong. Marquez usually had to out-level and out-think his opponents -- very strong fighter mentally in my book.

It's easier when you hold all the cards, and physically, I think Marquez held a losing hand sometimes but played it well.

Shake makes some good points here.

Lopez was the most effective against his own era by a country mile, but that's also because he was fighting the worst level of opposition by a good margin.

Arguello and Marquez were about equal in terms of effective deployment of technical attributes. Both excelled against come forward opposition and had similar technical flaws against movers. Arguello kept his stance and punching form better when pressuring, but still struggled to get punches off.

Arguello was more effective all things considered as he could turn fights with just a few punches a lot easier than Marquez could, and also had better physical attributes as previously mentioned.

How would a Marquez-Arguello fight look like?
