Which five heavyweight champions would be the most difficult for Ali to face ? Also, how does he do against them? All prime over 15 rds.
    My five.
    Holmes
    Lewis
    Dempsey
    Louis
    Marciano
I thought about Tyson and Johnson . Tyson would get frustrated after the mid way stage imo , but his fast hands would always be a danger.
Johnson has the potential to nullify Ali's shots, but I'm not convinced he would be able to land enough of his own against the fast stepping Ali. to get the victory.
    Who are your choices?

Ken norton as never hwt champion.

The ones that would give Ali the most trouble would not be large immobile fighters! Ali beat fighters like this easily. it would be quick fighters who could better match his speed, swarmers who fought low and punched hard and great boxers

    Dempsey
    Tunney
    Louis
    Marciano
    Frazier

I always get a mental image and I always used to say to myself whenever I watched Jersey Joe Walcott "i reckon this guy would give Ali fits!" for whatever reason but other than that I'd say some your bulldozer types so my man Rock would no doubt be a tough night but then with guys like Ali at his peak I don't see anyone giving him absolute hell because I don't think that many would be able to hit him often enough haha - well not hell as in the attrition stuff that he went through with say Frazier say?

For a young man mcvey knows his stuff.

Holmes won the title based upon three events...

He beat No 1 contender Norton.
    Ali retired
    Holmes beat the unretired Ali.

On the other side of the coin Norton beat no one to win the worlds hwt championship. So right out of the gate he has no title as the true championship is only won in the ring. He was handed a paper title on the strength of his losing a decision over then champion Ali and because Spinks gave Ali a rematch instead of fighting Norton.

This was also a time, the beginning of the end of boxing as I knew it, when each corrupt boxing commission had their own champion and their own contenders!

So Spinks beat Ali, Ali beat Spinks then retired. Holmes is the next champion based on his win over No 1 contender Norton and also beating unretired Ali. His long reign beating a myriad of contenders further adds to the credibility of his championship.

But no...Ken Norton was never the worlds hwt champion.

Official decision is what counts obviously. Close fight but the champion got the nod and that's the bottom line.
