Yes he has a bad jab, had a reach advantage over Beltran and every time Beltran pushed forward he landed as Rickys jab was ****. Mate I might not be a boxer but have been in street fights with guys a lot harder than Burns, and if someone managed to break my jaw I would fight better instead of wimping and moaning about it. As much as Nelsons interview at end was embarrassing, Rickys too. I thought Nelson done a great job in corner as Ricky was crying about a punch hurting him and he motivated him best he could. Bet your botton doller if that was a Scott Harrison, a Froch or a Benn and they had there jaw broken the would have took fight to Beltran and hurt him for hurting them, that's what real figting man does.

It's not anything to do with Billy Nelson - as if he's going to sit next to Ricky and say he lost the fight he's got a job to do as a trainer and saying something like that on TV next to him is the wrong way to build your fighter back up - he'll go through it with him in private.

Some folk on here just want to criticise Billy Nelson for anything - undeniably a case of people on the internet getting a kick out of being able to slate a successful boxing trainer because he happens to use this forum.

Absolute disgrace of a decision by the way, I was at the fight and nobody around me at the SECC could believe the verdict. The guy who scored it for Burns should be investigated.

so most people on here seem to think its mandatory to have a fighter surrounded by yes men this helps no one , whats wrong with being open and honest giving a fighter if needed positive criticism in order to improve and just being man enough to say to the fighter you just fell short .

Ok matei believe you. You refer to Froch, isn't he the man that got a gift against Dirrell and still to this day would never admit it? The same man that cannot accept Kessler beat him fair and square yet he kept moaning about volcanic ash hindering his preparations!!

Didn't Scott Harrison lose a fight early on in his career when he was cut? Why didn't he grind out a win that day? I love all the fighters you just mentioned but you can't have one rule for one and a completely different set for Burns.

The great Duran threw in the towel against Robinson, Naz crumbled against Barrera, Frazier against Ali. These guys are all ATG yet get a pass? I'm not saying Burns won the fight, I thought Beltran won by a few rounds and fought really well. I just can't stand the hate for a fighter that shows real heart and bravery.

Talking about Nelson, the other Nelson, Johnny was great. He was honest that Ricky lost by a good few rounds, we are not daft we know he is limited, and good beat, and outclassed for 6 rounds by Gonzalaz but because hes from our country we want him to win. It is when people compare him to Broner It gets embarrassing or say he is better than a prime Harrison, Buchannan or Watt.

Beltran clearly won the fight, and naturally if the promoter and Team Burns have any balls a rematch will be arranged, however I suspect they will not want any part of Beltran again.

Whilst loyalty to your fighter is a huge must in boxing it should not be in place of basic honesty.

Burns has been properly found out with the shambles of his last 2 fights.

Get off your high horse, this is boxing, a sport that involves fighters trying to knock out their opponent by hitting them in the head. Basic honesty is a luxury you cannot afford. If you want honesty watch Golf or Snooker...

:patsch at people thinking just because Billy didn't say it on live TV that he won't be honest with Burns in private. He's got a job to do. And he doesn't have to do it in front of any of us.

Comparing last night to Froch Dirrell does it a disservice.

Froch Dirrell was a close fight that many many people scored either way.

Last night there was no way you could score that for Burns!

I had ricky losing by 3 rounds, beltran looked a very good fighter, cut the ring off very well and picked his shots well, don't understand why billy is getting stick, if it wasn't for his corner work when ricky was in pain and feeling down billy basically told him what was what, billy kept the title for ricky rightly or wrongly, ricky owes billy a beer, some idiots in this thread

I think Ricky was well beaten in this,But didn't expect either him or Billy to say so.In a long time,I can only remember it happening once, when Richie Woodhall got the decision over Glen Catley.Loyalty would stop an otherwise honest guy from saying they lost the fight. Its not a cardinal sin.The judges are the ones I blame, especially the British one who gave it a draw.
Burns has been, and is,a fighting champion.Ive never thought he was the 2nd coming of Ken Buchanan, but seriously, who is?Hes done brilliantly.I don't expect them to give Beltran a return, but if they did win or lose it would surely shut some people up.Hope it happens in Scotland again with fair judges this time.Beltran would come, hungry fighter.
