With the Burns scoring/injury being the major talking point a very good win from Simmons has not really had much attention. What did folk think of his performance? What would you do with him next? Be interested to see if he bypasses British level and attempts to climb the rankings by bringing over top 15 fighters from abroad.
I missed the whole undercard, and was honestly surprised to see that Simmons had done the job. Having seen them both a few times I thought Graf, while he is no world beater, would probably have Simmons asleep by the end of ten. Strong performance then? Legit scoring?
Stevie boxed well, he didn't give David Graf any space to get his boxing flowing and clearly outpointed the German. I'd like to see Stevie boxing the best in Britain now!!
Aye, was a very clear win but a tough tough fight. Simmons got on top on him from the first bell and didn't stop, his work rate had Graf gassed in the middle rounds but he came back well and made the last couple rounds competitive but at that point they both looked very tired. Simbo's jab looked great, he didn't let a bad cut above the eye bother him, he looked like he hurt Graf on quite a few occasions with overhand rights and generally put on a very good performance considering he hasn't done more than 6 rounds before.
I hope for the same mate, don't know why but I think Eddie might not be going that route with him. He's 29 now and needs to be moved up, I reckon we'll see him fighting a couple guys 10-15 in the WBC rankings then stepping in to the top 10 if he continues to win. With Eddie focusing Wadi Camacho on British level I think he'll keep them apart, at least at the moment, and go different routes.
I'm sure even at 29 Stevie would love the British title for keeps and with the Cruiserweights around he could easily have it sewn up by the time he is 30, still not old for a cruiserweight!!
Good on the lad then. So he stood up to Graf's power well, or did he smother him enough that it never really became an issue?
I agree with you, I'd much prefer to see him prove he's Britain's best first and that may be the plan anyway, just have a feeling it may not be the route they take.
He defo stood up to Graf's power well, took a couple big shots and just kept moving forward. He was pressuring but wouldn't say he smothered him, won the war of the jabs and made sure his hands were up when marching forward to took pretty much everything on the gloves. Defo looks to be improving with every fight, best shape he's been in too so credit to his team.
Very good performance & a highly enjoyable fight. Simmons is the best domestic cruiserweight imo, (bar Ola) I think he'd beat Dickinson for the British but Matchroom might take him in a different direction. Simmons vs Camacho could be a fun fight
Would love to see that, Camacho could really get under Simbo's skin pre-fight with his smack talk but he'd defo pay for it during the fight. This is the most interesting domestic cruiser fight out there imo.
Graf didnt land his right Hand in a strong way. Also was gassed after 4 rounds (or so). First round Graf looked strong and fast landed some good shots, But then he just lost it. Scoring was a bit wide but Simmons won pretty clearly. After watching both I dont think that they will do anything great.
Good point OP big simmo been overlooked here, wasn't confident for him tbh after seein that beast at the weigh in but the big man done it. a txt my mate who was going sat saying big graf looks a beast and he replied sayin he had 1k on him at 11/10. Ouch Well done Simmo well deserved
After seeing clips of Graf and seeing the size of him I was worried as well but Simbo has been getting better every fight and put in a very good performance. Happy for the guy because I know he lives the life and works as hard as anyone. Hopefully more to come from him.
