Which of floyd's opponents, at the exact time that Floyd fought them, we're actually better than Canelo? Don't say prime Shane, Or Prime Oscar, because as the instructions say: "at the time Floyd fought them".

In my opinion the only fighter that Floyd fought that was actually better than Canelo was Marquez. This obviously doesn't mean Marquez would beat Canelo in an actual match, I just think he is technically and p4p a better fighter.

Oscar still had plenty left. Not prime but not shot like he claimed.

Mayweather fought the very worst version of Marquez ever

Canelo is a better challenge than that bloated, sluggish, cheated on the scales blown up lightweight version of Marquez was for sure

Freddie Roach said he couldnt pull the trigger when he trained him.

It's tough to say but I'd go with those 4 fights. There are so many ways to look at it.

You mention p4p yourself in which case Mosley and Hatton entering the fights were more highly thought of than Canelo.

In terms of what they had achieved on paper recently leading into their fight with Floyd, you could easily add Hatton, Baldomir, Genaro, and Guerrero.

Also consider what they did with their career in the immediate aftermath of the fight. Otherwise, there might be more fighters such as Mosley, Oscar, Hatton, Cotto, or Genaro; all guys who very well may have fit this "being better than Canelo" given how they too were viewed entering the fights but how what they did after their losses to Floyd minimizes the victory, as it should... I say all this to say that we can't properly answer this until the fight happens and years afterward too.

I do believe a convincing win over Alvarez will be among Mayweather's 5 or so best victories.

This actually reminds me that I should add an update to the "famous sparring beatdowns" thread. Although it wasn't a physical beatdown, Ivan Calderon put a mental beatdown on De La Hoya. Roach pleaded with De La Hoya to hit Calderon one good time, just one good one. But according to roach Oscar couldn't do it. Calderon danced all over him. In fact, this was the moment Roach looked back on when his opinion was asked about letting Manny in with Oscar. Roach reasoned that Oscar couldn't "pull the the trigger anymore" based on what Lil Calderon did to him.

    That is crap by Roach.
Very entertaining fight between Oscar and May.
If Oscar couldn't "pull the trigger" May would have knocked him out in a couple of rounds.

Castillo,Jmm,Corales,Cotto,Judah, all better fighters than Alvarez.

Castillo,Judah and Cotto did better than Alvarez will do.

  10. Canelo will do what Cotto couldn't. This fight will be much tougher for Floyd than Cotto. Floyd isn't spectacular above 147.

Canelo will do better than Judah. Zab mentally quits.

Castillo beat Floyd the first time so when its all said and done he will have done a better job. I give Floyd props for the immediate rematch and winning in fashion...but Floyd lost the first time.

It is going to be funny when Floyd easily wins this fight. I just hope he doesn't ruin Canelo because he is only young and could be a future star.

might sound crazy but outside of lacking mentally, i think victor ortiz at the time is better than canelo now, ortiz had power, good footwork,he was quick, he boxed good against floyd for those few rounds, he lacked in defense a lil bit, he just just couldnt maintain mentally...Canelo has good skills and a world of potential, but he aint showed me what he can do against top comp for me ta think he is a problem yet.

Hard to say because of the different weights, Would Corrales of 2001 and Castillo of 2002 have beaten the Canelo of today ? probably not because of the size lol.

A lot of factors in it, I do expect Floyd to win the fight fairly comfortably though, think it will be interesting and somewhat competitive at times and Canelo will come out of the fight with his head held high after a spirited effort but see Floyd taking a 9 - 3 or 8 - 4 type decision.
