Honest question, 20 years from now do you think Klitschko's reign is going to look that much better to objective analysts? Would you not have to be a "huge Klitschko fan" to make that argument?

    Yes.

No matter how you slice or dice the modern era, the 80's were the worst era in boxing.

And though Holmes is an ATG, he is at the end of the ATG list.

Stuff happens...and he gets a pass for the first Spinks fight. But a true ATG heavyweight never, ever loses a rematch to a blown up feather fisted light heavyweight. It will always donkey punch his resume from anyone who is a historian and understands the fight game.

I give Wlad the edge because, although each men fought his share of unworthy challengers (it happens in long title reigns), Wlad's actually unified with the other beltholders. The only one he didn't unify against was his brother; Holmes never unified, period.

It's not that Holmes needed to unify to show he was "the man"; it would've helped his reign because the other guys with belts are essentially the top ranked challengers.

Thanks for the post, I enjoyed it.

Regarding Brewster being legally half-blind in the rematch, I am sorry to call bull**** on this. First of, the German boxing council would not have licensed him to fight if he was even only partly blind on one eye. Furthermore, from what I remember Brewster was only half-blind after the Helenius fight, which happened three (!) years after the Wlad fight.

Brewster said in an interview he lost his eye-sight in the Helenius fight, not in the Liakovich fight. And he hasn't fought since.

I fail you see how you rank Ibragimov , Chagaev ,Chambers as A - .

Iggy had made the choice to leave boxing and was only there to collect cash. He didn't even try to win and the fight got Wlad ousted from the US.
How can that be classed as a good win?
Even before Wlad , he went the distance with beyond past it Holyfield who was getting tko'd by middleweights.

Chagg was ruled unfit to fight outside of Germany and HBO even rejected to air the fight. Guy never beat anybody of note and lost to Povetkin who was half the size of Wlad.

    Chambers. Not a HW.

Brewster was suspended and unable to get a licence to fight in America..They allow sick patients to fight Wlad in Germany so he had no problem...Wlad is a disgrace for rematching Brewster.. Meanginless win.........Plus , he suffered the detached retina against Liakhovich.

    :rofl:rofl:patsch

You've got to be kidding..Fraud Ruiz was awful.. One of the worst belt-holders ever.. Several gift decisions, faking low blows, hitting and holding, Excessive clinching(say what you want about Wlad and his clinching, but he has nothing on Ruiz and it isn't even close) Ruiz clinched much more than anybody has, and he got away with that along with his other cheating antics due to his connections with Don King!

Klitschko and Holmes any time during their long reigns both put any version of Ruiz to sleep. :yep Moving on...

Although we don't know how Wlad's title reign will end yet so it's not an apples to apples comparison, Holmes' WBC reign ending by ducking Page also leaves things on a sour note for me. After the Cooney fight, it was all about a money grab. Nothing wrong with that in a sport where so many champs wind up broke whatsoever, but it's got to be acknowledged for what it is.

Holmes ruled to 1985. Not 83.
