It's improving but he can still be tagged. 4/5

He showed us he has a very underated defense in the trout fight. I want togive it a 4 out of 5 but considering guys like whitaker mayweather and pep would be 5's i just dont feel right putting him so close

    3.5/5

    3. He looked good against a slower Trout who is also left handed, as long as he had the angle most of those punches fall short regardless of his head movement based on foot positioning alone. That, and in that open stance, as long as he has the right foot positioning, he is never in range/angle for that trailing hand. He SHOULD look better defensively against an unmatched pair by default, unless he simply doesn't know the match-up.

    just sayin'...

Anything to do with him knowing trout was a different beast altogether?

Shows me that not only does Canelo have good defense, and not only is he multi-dimensional, but he is also smart.

4/5 definitely, he gets tagged but doesn't take punishment if that makes sense.

I rewatched the Lopez fight on Xfinity on Demand the other day and the thing that stood out to me was his defense. He got lazy a couple of times, but he blocked and slipped a lot of Lopez's punches very subtly.
