Corely has pop too, he had Cotto doing the cha cha and holding on for dear life and got a hometown stoppage when Corely had a real chance, and have stopped a few prospects. That was a huge shot Mayweather took from Corely, he not only didn't go down, but went on within the next few seconds to win back the round and have Corely hurt.

Suspect punch resistance is what happened to RJJ when Tarver landed a similar punch on him.

If he gets wobbled as he did against Mosley but no longer possesses the physical ability to avoid a fight-ending follow up, I'd suggest that he's been harbouring a less than sturdy jaw for much of his career.

KOed by a single shot? Perhaps it's diminishing reflexes that caused him to be hit 'square on' by a decent puncher than he ever has been before (even rolling with a punch in a barely noticeable fashion can lessen its impact), or perhaps his chin has gone downhill.

I still consider his chin a question mark - It's DEFINITELY not '24-carat Khan' but I am unable to pass judgment on it, and being rocked early by Mosley forces me to peg it as 'questionable'. If he takes a shellacking tonight without going down, he'll have earned a chin commendation from me.

Ultimately, if he ends up being hurt and stopped despite taking minimal punishment, his chin circa September 14 2013 must make him a surefire candidate for the glass chin rankings - they exist in the here and now, not the past. If you're packing glass today, you're a contender for the list; just like true world championships, it's not something that former glory has a shred of relevance to. Alvarez might be the bigger man, but his record offers proof that he's no Julian Jackson.

 

This is very convincing analysis, and it has raised some doubts in my mind regarding Mayweather's punch resistance. It remains to be seen tonight what happens. If Mayweather gets starched, I will certainly nominate you for Chinchecker of the Year!!!:thumbsup

 

It happens. But with a defensive genius like Mayweather, it will start showing later than your average boxer.
But then there's Pacquiao who has long been renowned to have an iron chin -- only to be KTFO'd easily by JMM without showing any signs of chin deterioration on his previous 2 fights, one of which was with JMM as well.

So there's really no telling when the next boxer is gonna get Roy Jones'd.

This is one of the reason's I LOVE boxing. You could have a fighter with an IRON chin, but then all of a sudden age sets in, and his mandible falls apart. The excitement is unbelievable, just wondering which jaw will become fragile at any given movement!

How many times has Mayweather been hurt? Twice. Twice in 44 fights. Corely rocked him, and Mosley rocked him, and both times he was coming back by the end of the round. Judah's quasi knockdown and his stumble against Hatton were balance issues. He hasn't been caught with anything huge that many times in his career, and the times he has, he proved his chin and recovery skills are on point.

 

Nobody was questioning Roy Jones's chin until the second Tarver fight.:deal
